Previously I posted educational status of commissioners / directors of several state game and fish departments.

Clearly states vary in size, director scope of duties, number employees in the department, and so forth. It is reasonable to consider the salary of the director to be commensurate with the usual factors of employment and responsibility.
As public employees, the directors’ salary and job responsibilities are public information. While “public”, such may be difficult to find.
“An Alabama teacher with a doctorate and 26 years experience makes $82,391 in a year. The median household income in Alabama is $59,674.”
The Commissioner of Alabama Department of Conservation of Natural Resources:
“Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Commissioner Chris Blankenship, $239,784, up 39% over what he was receiving in Nov. 2021.”

Not posted here, but one can find general budget (not detailed of course), number of employees, and so forth for Alabama ADCNR. It’s not straightforward and easy, but doable. Relative to the state in general, and other state employees such as teachers, Alabama's game and fish commissioner salary is egregiously high.
Readers should be able to find salary and scope of responsibility for their state’s game and fish commissioner and the department overall.
