    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

I would like to state that before I went with Rodent pro I never once saw a parasite in my collection. Then a few months after I start to order from them I had lil worms floating in water dishes. I thought it was from a recent trade and that I just didnt quarantine that guy long/good enough, but after I take these snakes to the vet and get them checked out, the doc says these worms cannot be contracted through the vent of the snake, but only from the prey. Being inside the prey is a necessary step in the development and cannot be skipped. I believe she said they were Pinworms, or trachylides (sp)? So that means that Rodentpros feeders have parasites and they are selling these animals as clean, safe feeders. I will be taking some of these rats/mice of various ages and bring them to her for a fecal exam. We just have to wait until I get paid again or if I have enough after I get the necessary medication to clean my collection. I put this out there as an info thread so that people can not only hold off feeding these rats to their animals, but if they were curious enough themselves to take them to their vet and get them checked out for a second opinion. I will update this thread after we get the fecal smears on the rats done.

Are the rodents you are concerned about live, or frozen? Also, have you notified RodentPro about this problem and gotten a response from them? Have you made them aware of this thread?

Thank you for the Warning... I personally think breeding my own stock is easier since idont have to worry about external parasites in my colony and its cheaper but your experiance is a good piece of information to share with us.

I hop things work out for you and that everything gets squared away

yes this is a good step to take also but didnt know how to explain it in my own words... do this stuff and good luck :)

Frozen, and no I havent. This isnt a bad guy thread but an info thread, they have no need to defend themselves, yet. This is general info for people who use them to know that this is what I found, and if they feel it necessary to hold off feeding until I have a definite answer. Once I have confirmation that infact it was Rodentpros rats believe me I will contact Casey.

That sounds bizarre. THe rodents are hard frozen, so how would they still be alive to have your snake contract them?

I guess there is a chance the eggs can survive dormant and that they will "awaken" when they unthaw. Im not sure how it works but my vet said it was totally possible for them to contract internal parasites from frozen feed.

parasites can come from anywhere. i find it hard to believe that they came from frozen rodents.

have you had the parasites analyzed by a veterinarian to identify the species of parasite ??

its like people that ask where did my dog or cat or ferret (or whatever animal) get these parrasites from, they are all over the environment

I would contact them anyway with your concern that your snakes became infected with worms after eating frozen rodents from them. If you tell them the shipping date, they may be able to determine which colonies they came from and either treat or destroy the infested rodents.

also, i would call rodentpro, and ask how long they keep their prey items frozen before being shipped, and what temp they keep their holding freezers at.

ive been in animal emergency/critical care (and reptile/amphibian) for almost 15 years now, and i have never heard of any parasites being able to survivie 20 degrees (in the feezer) or less, and more than 48hrs in those freezer conditions

Correct me if im worng but doesnt RodentPro buy from other breeders and sell as their stock. Could explain the reason most shipments are covered in piss,poop,bedding. I ordered from them once and that was it for me...

Panacur can help you with your pinworms at $9 a tube

Did u even read what I typed?

Yes I brought actual live parasites I found in my boas water dish this morning before I left.

keep in mind also, pinworms arent a big deal in repitles (particularly larger boidae), and generally pass right through the entire digestive tract with very little to no issues

Gotta have the liquid in the bottle, she didnt want me to use the paste in the tubes,

But yes I have been noticing more and more bedding in their fur as well. But hey I guess its a good thing that theres poo int he bags, makes it easier for me to collect a sample.

You would need a fresh sample from their live stock to test for any parasites. After so many days frozen they come back negative in test results.

And the paste is just as good as the liquid. Inject the paste into the rodents mouth/throat and feed to the snake. Do this once a week and youll be fine. Vet wants you to buy Rx they prescribe to make more off ya.

I would just look elsewhere for rodents or breed your own and see the difference

I dont really care if they do. I wont sell/trade an animal I know has internal or external parasites. I dont want worms floating in my waterdishes. And I wont let my animals deal with it.

With all due respect to you, once you called their name here, they should have been notified. I did so.

Normally I would agree with this, but Im her fiances boss and were pretty cool with each other. She actually didnt want me to spend the 250 a bottle they were asking at the vets and told me I should look online for a reputable seller of such. But she did specificly state she did not want me to get the paste, and since she did handle and exam my snakes, I feel comfortable going with what she told me to do. Thanks for the help!

and thats fine, i was simply stating that they dont affect the actual health of the reptile

i admire you for wanting them controlled and gone, which is the proper thing to do.

again though, i would contact them and ask them some questions, maybe things can be dealt with and solved before this goes any further
