    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Prices raised on Bumese pythons?

I saw a few ads with Burmese python's prices raised more than i have ever seen before because of the ban.


Whats everyone's opinion on the sudden price increase? Are Burm's gaining value now?

Why would they gain value when they are rendered basically worthless,market wasnt great on them anyway.maybe Im wrong but Im worried about the future of all reptiles!
 
This may be because folks figure this is their last chance to get the morph they have been wanting, before it may be locked out of their State. People may not be able to make a living breeding them, but there will still be breeders operating in every State, and people will still buy them.
The big tragedy is how many of these snakes will wind up homeless when people move from State to State.
 
I saw a few of those ads myself. Some of the prices are even above what the most expensive pet store would charge for a normal or albino burm.
I think within the next month or so you will see prices plummet since breeders will no longer be able to see nationally.
I wouldn't be surprised if lucy burms are $50 when the ban is ready to go into effect.
 
I'm not sure what you mean by registered. Honestly, that's part of the ludicrousness of this law...there is no registration, unless that's a State law. They have no clue how many of these animals exist in the country, and they have no clue who has them. No legitimate business is going to try shipping them, but I'm sure there are plenty of illegitimate ones that will. Regardless, if someone drives over from a neighboring state and buys one, and drives it home, they have no means to prevent that. No breeder is going to care whether their customer is planning to smuggle it, because it's no skin off their back if the customer takes the risk...which is virtually no risk at all.

All of which will serve no other purpose than to paint the entire reptile industry in a bad light. Some underground breeder, or hobbyist with and "I don't give a crap" attitude, will get caught smuggling burms, it will make the news and pretty soon the rest of us will be trying to explain to our uneducated neighbors why it is not indicative of the way the legitimate reptile hobby/business/industry works or how responsible reptile owners behave. Once again the ability of the responsible to keep he animals they love will be made more difficult by the actions of the irresponsible.

Exactly. All you need is one breeder to sell their remaining offspring to out-of-state buyers when the in-state market dries up and get caught. It will be national news and instead of just a ban on moving these animals from state to state, you will see an outright national ban on ownership.
I can almost guarentee that within 6 months of this going into effect, someone is going to get caught shipping a burm morph out of state. Then we are all screwed worse than we are now.
 
I have a few burm breeders and a few breeders held back as well. This bam is cutting me back. Basically it means I'll be doing more reptile shows and less shipping. I hope steve is right and lucys price drops like crazy as I would love a nice little colony

You would only be able to bring burms to a show in your home state and only sell them to people that also live in your home state.
The market for burms has now been shrunken severely.
Eventually people are going to run out of people to sell to in their own state. If you live in PA, you can only bring them to a PA show and sell to a PA resident. That severely limits the market for a breeder. If there are several breeders in the state, it's going to be even harder to make a sale.
Personally, I see this as the beginning of the end for the burm market which is exactly what HSUS is looking for. I also think this is just the first step. States are targeting exotics at an alarming rate. I think the goal of no one being allowed to own any animals is gaining traction. This was just the first step on one crappy ladder.

But.... he would no longer have to compete with anyone from out of state. You want a Burm, your getting it from a breeder at a show and paying his price. A guy half way across the country will no longer be setting your price. Someone can't say " The guy on KS is only asking....".

Good point, because right there at a show you have to pay what the breeder is asking. Where else are you going to find that certain snake right there infront of you. ..... Not online.
 
And..... you'll most likely have to buy from someone who is actually breeding them. You can't buy them wholesale from out of state to resell, the inability to wholesale across the country will severely reduce the number of people willing to produce large amounts of Burms.

The market will should look more like that for indigo snakes, but at a little lower price point, maybe $300 for normals or albinos. It will take a few years to get there, but IMHO that's where it will be going.

I see your point, but I think exotics are an easier target than some of the common domestic pets. I think some pets such as dogs will be a much more difficult challenge to any group whose goal is the eradication of animal ownership. Companies like Purina, and the corn growers who sell to pet food companies (lower grade dog foods contain lots of corn which is a huge markup when sold as dog food) have plenty of money to lobby and pay off any potential threats to their profits.
 
I bet it's on the HSUS agenda to eventually ban dog ownership or maybe they'll get away with it by saying you can't transport them across state lines.

I think those that are raising prices on burms aren't making out so well. Reason being, those that want or are considering getting a burm will be more hesitant to buy because they know the resale will be limited to there own state if things dont work out as expected. Also with the economy being how it is I don't think anyone is willing to pay extra for anything. If the ban does go into effect burm prices will drop drastically the week before the deadline.
