    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Once upon a time we had a very nice PetsMart down the street. All of the workers there were friendly and KNEW what they were talking about. We had a really great guy who know ALL about fish and a really funny girl who always told stories about her ferret, bunny, and guinea pigs that ran around with each other in her kitchen...

The years went by and the pet store finally started adding a reptile section. They had chameleons, white's tree frogs, etc.. and all in very big and beautifully designed cages.

Then they decided to build a new PetsMart for no apparent reason and when it finally opened, several months behind schedule they had even more reptiles but almost all of them are overcrowded in containers that aren't even 10 gallons!

Every time I go in there I get more disgusted.

I finally sent this complaint in on the petsmart website, and I hope it amounts to something!

"This store is killing the reptiles and amphibians!

Almost all of the reptile and amphibian cages are overcrowded and all of them are extremely dirty.

In a previous visit I saw parasites in the leopard gecko's feces and one had the tip of its tail missing and was walking around with this open wound.

The white's tree frogs are always a dark dark brown, sometimes nearly black which is a sign of stress!

The anoles are clearly suffering from starvation and today, not only were the bahaman anoles severely overcrowded, but they had a number of males in the tank together and three were fiercly fighting! I wonder how many of the females become gravid and then die from being egg bound because there is nowhere to lay the eggs either!"

I know that we don't have that many reptile enthusiasts in my area, so why is the PetsMart loading up on them - so they can kill them? It absolutely disgusts me!

Call your local Animal Control or the one for the city it is in. File a report and you can remain anonymous to PetsMart. That way, when AC receives your complaint, they will go check on things.

The more complaints there are, the more attention it will receive. I did this to a local pet store and they cleaned up their act.

Thanks! I will look into that.

I contacted the Animal Control center but they said the department of Agriculture is in charge of them and that they have no authority over PetsMarts. What on earth does agriculture have to do with pets???

Anyway, I've contacted them now. Hopefully something will come of it.

Yea, another thing about Pet Smart.... They hate snakes.. ha ha.. I say this because.. not only do they REFUSE to sell Frozen rodents. BUT if you ask to buy a live one for snake food.. they YELL AT YOU..

gotta love it!

Yeah, that puzzles me as well. Well, at least you called in to them.
Keep us posted.

Really? Ha ha. That's weird. But now that you mention it, I've never seen Mice at all at the PetsMart.

I used to prefer the PetsMart before they rebuilt it and I didn't like the PetCo down the road because it's smally and smelly, but now I prefer it. At least the people there are really nice and they take care of the pets properly.

I'll keep you all posted.

The one here will refuse the sale if they know its for snake food. They go by that everything they sell is a pet.

when i was getting mice there, they would try that on me. even ended up putting these silly little stickers on the tanks recommending "frozen" food as a better option and that mice made good pets.

technically, i dont think they can deny you a sale based solely on their personal feelings, or "they are all pets". But i could be wrong, since i dont know their store policy.

They would be... pretty reluctant to sell to me at times, but a bit of pestering, or getting someone from a different department and telling them to just take the meanest mice and they ended up being.. alright with it. I really dont go there anymore though, sometimes, but... pretty rarely, since my local pet shop gets pretty decent mice from a breeder in the area.

I think that's pretty silly. The reason they price them so much lower is because they ARE used as a feeder food, right???

When I went and bought a green anole once they made me fill out this big sheet and it said to check a box if I was younger than eighteen (I was) and have a parent sign it, but I was there by myself... so I just didn't check it off and they gave it to me anyway. :p

Hey! Good news!!!

I was in the pet store yesterday and it looked like everything had been cleaned up! Still not as good as it could be, but the bahaman anoles had been moved to a tank twice the size as the one before and every tank seemed to have less animals in it and it was less crowded. They also all looked fairly clean!

Just now I received a response via e-mail from the department of agriculture. Here is what they said,

"Dear Frodofan,

Thank you for taking the time to inquire about the health and welfare of these animals. Unfortunately, the Missouri Department of Agriculture does not regulate the sale of reptiles.

Your concerns were forwarded to the City of Bridgeton Animal Control for investigation. Officer Whitson visited the store on Monday and inspected all reptiles & amphibians present at the time. To my knowledge, there were no concerns about the health & welfare of the animals at that time. You may contact Officer Whitson directly at 314-739-7557 if you have any further questions or concerns.

Regards,
Elizabeth L. Wainwright
Animal Health Officer
Animal Care Facility Act Program
Division of Animal Health
Missouri Department of Agriculture"

Though she says there were no concerns, it would seem otherwise (considering things had been straightened up).

Yay for me! I feel proud of myself. :)

Oh. Ha ha. No, actually, I did not identify myself as that. They must have just picked it up from my e-mail adress...

Got this message from the stores manager today,

"Dear Ms. Duplantier,

Thank you for taking the time to write in about the pets in our store. I have talked with the pet care Manager and addressed your concerns. If you would like, please feel free to ask for me the next time if you have any concerns with the pets in our care.

Thank you again for taking the time to write.
