    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Moving Gecko Eggs (Anyone ever get eggs on a plane?)

I have to move 10+ Leo eggs on a plane from Greenville SC-Dallas TX in 2 weeks. I have been reading pages and pages on how to do this and I about have it all planned out, down to the plan Z almost.

I talked to a guy who got a snake in his shirt pocket on a plane...but was wondering if anyone has done this.

Here is a couple things I have to do...but still would love ANY tips.

-My Bator IS my Carry-On
-I have a small tackle box sized container for ALL of my eggs to rest in
-That box will go into my pillow
-All the guards are looking for is metal and drugs anyway
-Heat packs ready
-I have a Mobil temp gun with 5 foot line to keep track of temps at all times
-They will be in my site at ALL times so they don't flip or shake
-Can't think of everything because I'm tired and I don't feel like writing any more

Only other thing is to spend $100 on gas in my Jeep and drive witch will NOT work, trust me.
Or to ship them witch is even worse because they will flip over no matter how many stickers I put on it.

I know I forgot something to say... :rolleyes:
 
I do not think this will work.Ship the eggs.Or drive them your self.I get eggs shipped to me once a year from Indo.they make it here just fine.The airports will not let you bring your bator as a carry on.Give me a call.
 
Another option is to leave the eggs with someone local who can ship the hatchlings and the incubator to you in Texas after they hatch. That's what I would do.

What are you talking about? The eggs won't be in my bator. I will just have the bator as a carry on so I will have it when I get to my house. If I don't bring it, ill have to wait a week for it in the moving truck.

Could you tell me how the eggs are shipped to you? If that works then I will do that. How do you keep them from getting flipped? How do you keep constant temps?

did you try to ask to someone on the airlines, i had to smuggle a snake my sister gave me but that is a different thing all together they would not let me transport a live reptile maybe they would let the eggs go never know (if you already asked never mind this post)
 
I don't know about eggs but I had absolutely no problem taking 2 Ailuronyx (similar to Grandis Day) and 5 Xenegamas from Orlando to Phoenix. I had them in a backpack which I asked the guards to take without sending it through the X-ray machine, they took the pack and looked through it. They were asking me all about the lizards and couldn't care less. I guess eggs may pose a different issue since it is a bit difficult to prove what they came from... for all they know its from an endangered bird.

You got lucky then. It is a strict violation of FAA rules to bring a live reptile inside the passenger compartment of a commercial airliner.
 
From the FAA:
Items that are permitted in the aircraft cabin include:

Pets (check with airline for procedures)
Walking canes and umbrellas (once inspected to ensure prohibited items are not concealed)
Nail clippers
Safety razors (including disposable razors) (although I know of one situation when this, too, was confiscated)
Syringes (with medication and professionally printed label identifying medication or manufacturer's name)
Tweezers and eyelash curlers.

Not sure who told you they weren't allowed in the aircraft cause this is the same as what I read before I went to Fl. I do know that the airlines have their own set of rules... which are just that, rules not laws. Rules were meant to be broken!LOL
 
A friend of mine is a TSA screener here in Norfolk and he told me that reptiles are considered "exotics" not pets. The pet rule applies to dogs and cats.
 
i know they would not let me take my snake on, so i put him in a stocking and kept him in my pocket until we got on the plane (if the man is watching i am talking hypothetically of course :bolt01: )
 
Austin, how is your jeep getting from SC to TX if you aren't driving it there? Id take Jodi's advise and drive all of my geckos and eggs from point A to B

I think you need to tell your buddy that he needs to check what the FAA says about animals. Not only that, it is not the TSA that should be enforcing this type of regulation.
 
i dont know about rules but. when i was in orlando florida last year i bought my dad a cane to bring home. and they wouldnt let me bring it on the plane. they said it can conseal a weapon. i told them to inspect it and what not, x-ray it, do what you need but i spent like 45$ on a cane and now i had to give it away for free. damn bastards. also, when i used to live in miami as a kid i would catch anoles and when i was moving back up to CT i was gonna bring them on the plane and they wouldnt let me. but i dont know about it now. that one was about 16 years ago.

My "buddy" does as he is told by his superiors, not the bureaucrats in DC. As I recall from flying, TSA does the security screenings. They are the ones who are there by the metal detectors and X-ray machines telling you to take off your shoes. :raspberry
 
i think it would probally depend on the airport and the screeners themselves. i asked a tsa guy if it was ok to bring leos on the plane and he said" yes as long as they were not endangered. just tell them to hand check the bags" so it is probally one of those varying things.

That may be so, but when your flight is in 40 minutes and the guy in the uniform says "no" you don't have too many options. Evidently here they don't allow "exotics" through or so I have been told. I haven't tried. I would not recommend anyone trying it unless they don't mind being turned back.

As a side question...imagine if a venomous reptile got loose on an airliner. Might that be "hazardous"? Is the screener to take your word for it that the animal in question is not venomous? Or is he just going to tell you "no go"? Think about it.

No Ive never seen one of those lol

You are more trusting than I am with my vehicle, my husband worked at one of those loading facilities the year we met but he had to quit, he couldn't handle working with all the druggies, a couple of guys he worked with lost a finger or 2 and one had a car come off the ramp and pin him. Everytime something happened the person that caused it tested positive for drugs and he started to get scared he would get hurt after one of the workers ran into his uncle while laoding a truck.

Im terrified of planes anyway so Id drive from here to CA before Id trust someone else with my car or get on a plane lol
