    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Hey all,
I've decided to keep myself busy for a while by trying to write a book on leos. I will be using some personal expereince and some info gathered from various sources. Here is my table of contents so far:---Introduction---
Chapter1- Getting started
Chapter 2- Enclosure/Setup
Chapter 3 - Feeding/Nutrition
Chapter4 - Tail Loss & Shedding
Chapter 5 - Diseases & Treatment of Leopard Geckos
Chapter 6 - Breeding & Egg laying/Incubation
Chapter 7- Caring for Babies
If anyone can help by offering adivise and suggestions that would be great...I might get a copy published for myself too if it doesn't cost too much.:) Thanks!
-Grant

Well, the table of contents look good to me but what will you cover in each section?

Some things I find beginners over look are:
Belly heat at 90 (needing a thermostat not just an UTH) in the set up area
gutload & variety in feeders (and not oats and bran, but really healthy gutload) in the feeding section
substate issues (in set up area)
knowing what proper weights are and at what ages (which can vary) not sure what section -How to know if you Leo is Healthy section added maybe
How to select a leo (which I guess would be under getting started)

Can you give a table for the contents in each chapter?

I think a chapter on the history of leopard geckos would be a good addition. I always dig stuff like that. Oh, and you'll need about 3,452,342 chapters just on all of the crazy genetics and morphs :hehe:

One other thing I appreciate in a good reptile book is one that discusses ALL methods of husbandry, not just the author's. For example, some breeders avoid feeding crickets like the plague; for others, it's the staple diet. Also, some breeders are okay with sand substrate, others condemn it. I guess I just like the "neutral" books that address a variety of methods instead of those that preach a single opinion. Throw it all out there, and let the reader decide.

I think it's a good idea. I wish more people would write more books on reptiles. I would, but I don't feel that I know enough about any single species to really do it justice. Maybe I should just be an editor :hehe:

I would want to see a chapter on Morphs and Genetics....there just is not a lot of really good information out there available to people who are just starting out in leos or starting to breed. This will probably take you quite a bit of time to research and compile all your information not to mention take up a huge section with numerous pages but it would be worth it. I have picked up several leo books that have nothing in them about morphs and genetics. Ron Trempers book has morphs and genetic info in it but it would be nice to see another book available with even more information not excluding a "Dick & Jane" version on leo genetics...
If you are serious I am sure many of the big names in leos would be more than happy to give you advice and information...

I agree with Paul. Background info is a must! Where the come from, average life span, social or anti? Natural diet consists of.

Also agree with him on the husbandry points. I would list them all and make valid points on the pros and cons on all of them, without leaning yourself to the way you do it. Be neutral. Not everyone does everything the same. The world would be mighty boring if we did! :)

Interesting Method of Writing a Book

One of the best breeding and maintanance books that I have ever purchased is a book on Discus Breeding (the prettiest and most difficult of tropical fish).

Jack Wattley (the Kelli Hammack of discus) included chapters written and photographed by several other top experts without his interference. The book is stunningly good! :cool:

Thanks for the ideas and advice everyone! It'll be quite some time before I get this all put together ans straigtend out but I'm sure once its done it will be great! :)
