    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Is it normal for stress to cause change of color?

Hi Everyone,

Last sunday (Nov 27) I picked up a couple of leos, (1.1) from different breeders. They are both super hypos, and the female has a decent amount of carrot tail. She was a fairly rich tang on her body. I've noticed since she came home she has gone a few shades more brown, and was not sure if this is something related to stress, or if it could be something else. The breeder I bought her from is very reputable, so I don't suspect anything weird there, she's eating, not as much as she probably could, but eating a couple mealworms every other day (I know it's not enough, but she won't take anymore, which is reasonably normal for her situation). She hatched last April (2005), and weighs about 55g.

The male I bought at the show is doing just fine, no color change, and he's hitting crickets like he hasn't seen food all his life. He hatched July 2004 and weighs 62g.

I have been housing her in a 20G, the exact same way that I have kept my other two females for the past 8 months with no complaints or worries from them.

My first guess would be that it's from stress from being at the show, and then moving into somewhere new, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'm all ears!

Sorry, I haven't taken any pics yet because I don't want to add any additional stress. Perhaps in a couple days.

Thanks for any help/insight!

Amanda, stress can cause a gecko's color to dull, but so can low temperatures and dark substrate color. Give her a few days and see if she brightens up once she's settled in.

Thanks Marcia

Her temps shouldn't be too low, she has a warm side of 85-88F, and a cool side around 75F, lower at night. Perhaps this should be raised? My other girls have been doing fine at these temps, so I just continued with them. She does stay in the warmest hide whenever I see her.

When they are stressed, do they require more heat? Could this be why? Also, the substrate isn't dark, it's paper towel.

At what point should I start to be concerned? Tomorrow will be her seventh day with me. I realize it can take them up to a month to settle if they are really stressed, but does the color generally stay dull for a while afterwards, or come back sooner?

Thanks again Marcia!
Cheers,

Oh mine did the same thing. I keep my temps now at 88-92 on the warmside 80 for cool. She was dark for a while and I knew she was stressed. Well I kept her with another gecko so I moved her into her own cage. Then a week later she started to lighten up. Also I made sure her cage was dark because I figure the lights would startle her. Then I gave her 2 hides. Since on my juviniles and sub adults I keep them in a 12-15 qt containers there isn't enough room for hides. So I misted the towel underneath everyother day. She lighted right up on the next shed.

wow...I thought anything above 90F was getting into No-No territory. I guess I shouldn't trust everything I read. What are your cool sides?

I will bump up the heat a bit. There are several hides in the tank, so she can choose which one she likes the best.

Another question. Does the color ever go back to the original?

Thanks again,

Right on 90 degrees is perfect for the warm side and yes stress plays a vital role in the color of your geckos as well as temperature.

well on hypo tangerines they do go back to normal. I know albino's once cooled they stay dark. But I think on hypos they go back to normal majority of the time
