    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. I just got a pair of Mali Uros, at least, I hope it's a pair. I have my doubts about the female cuz her femoral pores arent tiny, can I post a pic here to get some opinions? And, how do I do that? She is around a year and a half at best guess and weighs 130 grams, is that normal?

If the photo is saved on your pc as a file, then next time you post to this thread just scroll down a bit below the text box in which yoy write your post and you will see and area on left that is titled Attach File and tot he right of that a browse button. Click on browse, find your file and highlight it, then click open. That should place the name of the picture file in the box next to where it said browse. When you then submit your post, it should contain the pic.

In regards to your first post asking about the weight and age of your female uro, 130 grams is a very good weight for the age of the uro you specified. What is the length of your supposed female?
From the picture you posted, its rather difficult to tell. Have you noticed any waxy substance seeping from the pores? Also if you have the time could you post a pic of its head? That can help as well. And just one more question, how does the other mali behave around this one, and vice versa?
On first glance, I would say its a female.

oh yeah...

I havent seen any waxy substance, but then again I dont hold her a lot, she's kinda wild still. She is in with an adult male uro who completely ignores her. I got her from people I trust, but I was just surprised to see how big some of those pores were, and I really dont have anything to compare her to except the adult male. He's black with yellow markings on his back, and I heard they were sexually dimorphic, but I have seen pics of adult females that were black, so I am pretty confused now and the people on Kingsnake.com were absolutly no help. So thank you so much for helping me with this!!
 
Thank you for taking the pictures. She looks very healthy. The reason I asked for a head shot, is because sometimes the structure of the head is different in males and females. As the male matures their head tends to have a triangular shape as you look down on them. The female will have a rounded head structure. During the spring time of the year and up to early summer a mature male of the species will secrete a waxy substance from those femoral pores. Theres no mistaking it. Females, as far as I have observed, do not secrete this waxy substance. Males, will do this little head bob, push up action as they approach the female. Males will also do this chasing there tail on their basking rock and in other parts of their enclosure. I believe this might be a marking of the territory so to speak. I believe you have a female, but I am by no means an expert. I would just watch how she and the male interact around each other, particularly next spring. If you spot any aggressive behaviour, I would most definitely seperate them. Mr. Bartley was in this thread earlier, perhaps he can add something that would assist us in determining the sex. Would you care to lend your opinion or observation on the matter Sir?

I will also check with a fellow Uro enthusist whose knowledge far surpasses mine. Regardless, I think you have a very fine looking, healthy Uro on your hands. If your time permits, posts pics of the male in the photo gallery. I would love to see him.

When I chimed in it was to help the thread starter post a picture, not so much to give any info about Uros. I would not like to add my opinion on sexing them simply because I do not have an opinion. While I do know a bit about sexing lizards of various species, I don't know all that much about Uros although I am planning on getting some Ornate Uros or Sudanese Uros later this year, probably the Ornates. I have found that most lizards that are not very obviously sexually dimorphic are usually not all that easy to sex.

I will say though that if the suspected male is a male indeed, there is a good possibility that it will never show breeding interests after a burn like that. A burn capable of doing that much damage leaving a scar like that had to be quite severe, I would think, and therefore could have also done lots of internal damage too. You never know though recuperative powers are often amazing. An amazing scar, it almost looks like white out. I have never seen a scar like it before, the burn must have been pretty bad. Otherwise looks good so someone sure did something right to keep it alive after the burn.

I have done some searching on the net lately and in some books for info about Uros. I guess I should point out that the picture of your male U. maliensis does not look like other pics of Mali Uros that I have seen. Rather, I think it does look more like a U. asmussi from pics I have seen but as I said, I certainly don’t have a lot of info on Uros. I imagine there are lots of color variations among the pics I have seen that could make me think that.

The posted pic of the male would indicate the correct sex. There are some factors involved in that waxy substance I mentioned earlier. It only appears from sexually mature males, and is most likely seen during the spring of the year, up to early summer. My mature mali starts producing the substance around the end of February, and by mid June, it no longer appears. Another way to determine sex is hemipenal bulges. This can be accomplished by holding the uro, belly down, and lifting the tail . If two bulges appear, its a pretty good indication of a male. If a single or no bulge appears then its an indication of a female.
I beleive your female is not quite sexually mature from its size, and the age listed. The male looks like he is not quite sexually mature either, as it can take up to four years for malis to become sexually mature. I wish I could give you a definitive answer, but I believe that you were sold correctly sexed uros. The proof in the pudding will be if you find them mating. Thank you for your input, its always helpful to have as much information as possible and from different sources. In regards to Ornates and Sudanese. One can not go wrong with Ornates. They are easily sexed via their color, usually top out at around 12 inches, have great personalities, but be warned sir, many folks have made the observation that Ornates are the "couch potatoes" of the Uro World. LOL. They like to eat, and one of my associates who happens to have a breeding pair is always stating how she has to watch their diet closer than she does her own, :) They also have some of the most vibrant color of all the species.

Thanks for you input, I greatly appreciate it. It was a bad burn, done by a heat lamp too close. This lizard has moved around a bit, home to home, and is a bit beat up. The previous owners think he was wild caught, LTC. They took very good care of him, but didnt really want to get into breeding Uros, so I said I'd take them. This male has a couple odd toes, rough looking scales and most recently an abcess in his back leg. I work in a vet clinic and am lucky to work with a Dr who will help me with my reptiles, we treated the abcess today.
