    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

I Think My Dum Is Sick It Sounds Like A Hiss But Its Mostly When He Breaths Out What Can I Do I Need Help Fast? To Bad I Dont Know Much About This Snake Cause I Just Bought Him Of Kingsnake.com........someone Help I Love This Guy Already And He Sounds Bad.

is this the male? (I think I remember you looking for a male) sorry to hear you are having problems with him. unfortunately, that can be a risk of buying the unknown...and an even bigger risk this time of year, due to the low temps. I'm sure you have been checking stuff out long enough to anticipate at least some of the first round of questions, but here goes anyway. what are you keeping him in? how are you heating? what are cage temps (high/low side, night/day)? what is humidity level? room temps? still eating? is it just a hissy sound (maybe it is just a hiss)? is it short or long in duration? wet sounding? wheezy (high pitched)? are nostrils clear or plugged? how long have you had this one/how long has he been making the noise?
I won't start telling you to fix things til you help us figure out what's broke...in the meantime, keep him in the cage - it is almost certainly warmer there than in the room he is kept in. don't panic, most likely this is fixable...but it may cost you a trip to the vet.

The more it happens i think its just a hiss, he does not do all the time just when i touch him. could this be from not knowing me? he does not seem like he wants to attack(yet).... hes big so i dont want to mess around to much it can hurt. but anyway yea he only does it when i touch him, how can i stop this it freaks me out.lol.

how long have you had him? have you been handling him alot? did his previous owner handle him alot? if he is pretty new - just leave him alone for awhile, let him settle. keep handling to a minimum - cage maintenance only. and keep an eye (ear) on him...if it is only when you are touching him, nothing to worry about. when it comes time to handle, just do it...Dums aren't particularly aggressive, or overly inclined to bite; but the more his warnings work, the more he'll do it. I hate to say it, but if you are that scared of him, maybe a snake that size isn't the best choice. I only say that because I have seen people that are scared of their animals, and what tends to happen is things get neglected. if you can't get by your fear, maybe you could trade him for a different one.

no iam not scared at all i just rather not get bit.lol. i will leave him alone than thanks for the info, i just got him 3 day ago... so i thought it might be from not knowing me.

good luck with him. do keep an eye on him though, as shipping this time of year can be tough on them. I've got a few things that I received over the past few months that started the whole noisy breathing soon after arrival...most straightened out within a week or so of proper temps, but there are still a couple making noise. they're still eating well, but I am watching them carefully for any other signs of problems. If he doesn't lighten up his attitude, I have a male I might consider trading in a few months (once it is warmer) he bred with one of my females, so he should suit your needs.

thanks alot for your input i appreciate your help. You always answer all of my questions everytime... when do you think i should start tring to hold him? Like I said it dont seem like he wants to strike just makes alot of noise when i atemped to hold him.... Well i let him chill for a little and keep a eye on him. Iam going to to try to to feed him today see if he takes it. yea ill keep you posted on him. Again thanks alot for your help.
Bill

how long do you think i should leave him alone? Do you know of any ways to settle him down? Or just wait it out?let me know you think. i really dont want to have a snake i can't hold..... its almost pointless. I dont know mabey iam just a worry wort lol.

I would just give him some time to get settled. let him sit for a week or so, then try feeding. handling a snake that doesn't want to be handled is stressful; and until he is acclimated and you are sure he is in good health, you want to minimize stress. once he has fed a few times, you can try for a handling session (expect to have to move him around before that for cage maintenance - I usually just move into a holding container so I have easy access to everything). if you are concerned about being bitten, wear a flannel (chamois, or similar long sleeve) shirt and a pair of gloves. Do you know if his previous keeper handled him much - many do not. with patience, you should have him calmed down in relatively short order. if not, as I mentioned before, I would be willing to discuss possibly trading one of my males...but I wouldn't consider that for a few months - you should be good to go by then. HAVE FUN :crazy03:

The last owner said he was VERY tame...... but he just dont seem like it ill just give him some time. thanks alot for your help again ill keep you posted.

keep in mind that his whole world just got disrupted...stuffed in a bag, plopped in a box, bounced all around, warm, cold, warm..then who the heck is this guy?? :erm: this isn't my home...wait a second, what's going on here??? give him time. he may just be having a case of the crankies. and keep your ears open, make sure that that's all that noise is about - if it changes, or he starts doing it when you aren't touching him, give a shout

Hey good news i had to clean some poop up out his cage and no sound not even a little!!!!!!!! Mabey he's comming around, i hope so he's pretty looking and id hate to get rid of him. Ill say it again thanks for all your help i will countinue to keep you posted on the progess.... if you get annoyed let me know. but i like to know someone is there to help.... THANKS ALOT
BILL

Congrats on your new Dum!

Another thing that may help to ease stress of travel and new surroundings is to provide a substrate deep enough for your Dumeril's to burrow into and hide. I've read that they spend a signifigant amount of time hiding underground in burrows and what not in their natural habitat to escape the summertime heat. Or at least make sure he has hides in the warm and cold areas of his enclosure. That may allow him to settle in faster and feel secure. I love Dum's and I'm such a dork I threw a pic of my male on as my avatar. Good luck!

Well his good mood went down hill fast today, he was hissing pretty bad and looked like he wanted to strike. It is possiable that hes about to shed so ill give him some to shed then feed him and see whats happens. I think the guy that i got him from lied that he was hand tame.... I would email him but he wont probly tell me the truth. I dont know we'll see what happens.

hey hes doing much better but when holding him today i noticed a slight swelling around his mouth (god i hope its not mouth rott) it looks like his tounge dont even come out the front kinda towards the side.... if any one can help me i have pics of it they just are to big to post on here. post your email address and ill send the pics. if it comes that it is mouth rott and the guy sold the snake to me as tottaly healthy... is there some way i can go after him for a refund or be comensated for vet bills? i have email after email of him saying he is healthy. let me know everybody thinks.

if someone can describe what mouth rott looks like or has a pic of the start or if they can look at a pic of my dum and tell me if thats what it is...... i really need to know fast i want to get taken care of asap.... i dont want to infect my female dum. iknow i may sound like a pest but i dont want this to escalate in something that it dont have to be.
