    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Hi Everyone!

It's been a long time since I've posted anything about my leos...Probably because everything has been going smoothly.

The reason for this post is as follows:

I have a female leo that is about 1.5yrs old, and weighs in normally around 43grams. She is on a diet of mealworms, with a few crickets once in a while. I've been contemplating the idea of breeding her and my other female, a 64gram and still growing 1.5 yr old. My worry is that the smaller one (Lolita) is too small from what I can tell (most people seem to recommend a female well into the 50g range before breeding. Lolita even has little fat pockets around her front legs (one on each side of each leg). I wish she would just gain some size though.

Any thoughts on this? Especially concerning breeding? I don't want to do anything to stress or harm her, but was just wondering if other people have experiences like this? Perhaps she is just on the petite side, the opposite of the giants?:p

Thanks for any help or opinions!

It's great that you are concerned about the welfare of your female! Too many people are in so big a hurry to start breeding their leos that they actually endanger their lives by breeding too soon.

Each gecko is different. Not long ago (before we started growing them bigger) the average age and weight for a female leo to start breeding was 38-45 grams and a year old. I still have some 'old-school' girls that just are not 50+ grammers and never will be. I have bred them for many seasons with no problems, but I do like to wait until mine are at least 1-1/2 years old and a minimum of 45 grams.

Thank you Marcia for your reply!

I was thinking something similar, in that I think she is from a bit of an 'old school' line, as the breeder I bought her from wasn't huge into the morphs, and she is basically a slightly hypo normal, so perhaps her size is moreso related to genetics than anything. She isn't from the same parents as my other one, so I don't expect them to be alike.

Genetics would sort of answer my question as to why she gets fat lumps from eating mealies, but doesn't gain much girth or length!

I don't think I would feel comfortable breeding her before she got to or surpassed 45g for a while (like a month or two). I'm sure my other girl would be ready to go, that's the way Kali always is!

There's a reptile show here next sunday (PCPC in Mississauga), and I was considering picking up a loverboy for the ladies. If I did, then they would still have atleast 3 monthes before they would even see him (I'm a strong believer in a good quarantine). Chances of me finding an adult male could be slim, but this time of year, I'm betting I might find some. My only problem is that I always like them plain! Man, is it hard to find a normal, or something that resembles a normal these days! I love the morphs too, but I'm a fan of spots!

Thanks again, any other opinions are still welcome!
