    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

My ball python is commin around to ist 1st birthday. I want to feed it a live parakeet. Is this a ok or HORRIBLE idea? I know they eat birds in the wild, and ive heard people talk about feeding them, but I have never done it. I know snakes could care less about thier b-days, it is more for my sadistic pleasure. Any thoughts???
Her hatch date is March 17 (St. Patricks Day), so whatever my pole says on that day is whats gonna happen.
Hopefully ill b drinkin a green beer, watchin my snake strangle the life out of some helpless lil yellow parakeet.

That's a dumb idea imo. You'd feel kinda stup!d if the parakeet killed your ball. + other factors in it such as if the birds clean etc.

I know a lady whose ball python would only eat live chicks when it got old. It did quite well with them and she said it wasn't any different to see than it eating a f/t rat. Quick and clean.

That said, parakeets are kind of expensive for snake food and I don't think there is much nutrition from that type of bird. Not much meat at all.

If the parakeet is bothering you, give it away to some kid. (I can't stand those things...parakeets, not kids.)

I guess you get pretty bored down there in Missouri. :rolleyes:
I would not feed my snake a bird, ever.

i dont have a parakeet, i guy i know is gettin rid of them for $15 a pop. so i just figured it might be ok to feed it 2 a snake. (besides i think i could get into a lil trouble if i was feedin my snake children lol)

Actually, I read it as feeding the parakeet to the children. (Children taste HORRIBLE! All those energy drinks and all that salt and sugar! My snakes don't even want to nip my kids! LOL)

But yeah, if you fed it a bird and it didn't want rodents anymore...what would you do?

i had thought of that 2. thats y i posted this thread, for others thoughts. i had read some stuff about people havin issues with there balls eating mice/rats. so they tried gerbils. In doing so the snake would have nothing to do with mice/rats. it would only eat gerbils. So i guess if that happend, id have 2 feed it baby chicks.

Yep, you'd most likely have to find parakeets to feed to it, every week (or every how often you feed), if it got imprinted with them. And what happens if you no longer have a steady supply of parakeets? Or what if you start to run low on cash and can't afford the parakeets every week? Or, what happens if you can't keep the snake any longer and need to sell it? You won't find many people willing to pay much for a snake that's imprinted on parakeets. You'll be lucky to find a TRUE rescue that's willing to take it on. So you might have many issues getting rid of the animal should to need arise for you to get rid of it.

I don't think the BP would even recognize it as food....

And to satisfy your own sadistic pleasure? Find a different hobby..

Regardless, I don't think it's the best idea in the world.

Oh I think it would eat a bird no problem, but that is not the point. (and no I would never do it)

Bumping your own thread? Need attention much?
But I am going to go now, I somehow missed the don't feed the trolls sign on the way in. :shrug01:
