    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Just curious on what some of you use to get good photo's of your geckos. I have a basic 35mm camera I tried, and that came out horrible. My digital broke, so I am in the market for a new one to get good pics of my leo's with....but don't want to pay an arm and a leg. Any good suggestions? I know some of the pics on here are amazing.

are shot with a Digital Rebel - 6 mps.

But I've shot a lot of great pix with a Point and shoot Fuji at only 2 mps.

The important thing is to make sure it has a macro setting - so you can get those good close ups.

Or the ability to accept an adapter and/or add-on lenses.

My Fuji Finepix S7000 is a 6.3MP, and has two macro modes, good for a focal distance of right around 1". With the addition of my +1, +2, and +4 diopter close-up lenses, I can take a photo at a distance of 1" or less, and get up to a 7x magnification. Pretty impressive.

I was shooting with a Kodak DC3400 (2.0MP)- prior to the purchase of my Fuji, and got a whole lot of outstanding shots with a tiffen lens adapter and two close-up lenses.
 
I took this one with a Sony digital video camera. and i thikn thats an awsome option if you just want to take pics at home because it dose quality videos too, but its not a very portable option...anyways, i think its really a matter of personal preference! the cameras that are coming out now are all fairly good, so you just have to list the features you want and find one that has them!

I use a Nikon CoolPix 4500. It’s 4 megapixels and has a 4x optical zoom. It is an awesome camera. It also has a macro function which I recommend for everyone.

I have a Nikon Coolpix 4300. Awesome camera, I love it to death! It can take awesome up close macro shots and so much more, but its just slightly lower in price than Cody's camera and his is a 4500.

I really like the Nikons!

Are you shooting auto or setting fstop and shutter speed manually? If you do it yourself and set your fstop to somewhere between f/11 and f/22 that entire animal would be in focus instead of just the head.

. . . Mark and Aime, I love your photos. I think the crested geckos is such an interesting animal to photograph because of the skin texture, which your camera captures nicely.

Still learning the ropes with this camera... That shot was taken with auto settings. But - I didn't particularly want the whole body in focus... The idea was to get a perspective that made the gecko look like it was coming out of the photo. Unfortunately, my lighting was a little off, and I lost a lot of the detail and texture I was hoping for.

NO thats has to be one of the nicest Macro shots I have every seen. Very good job Mark and Aimee. What kind of camera is that your using? Whatever it is, its Awesome! Thats a professional looking image! Anyway I was going to give my vote for the Canon serious of cameras. I use a A40 and it takes descent pics. Its only 2 mp's but it works fairly well for what I paid for it. I am looking into getting the Macro lenses for it but I know very little about that sort of thing.
 
I don't know diddly about the various lenses or macros ect either. I mainly just need something to get some decent and good pics of some of my herps. As well as a decent everyday camera for general use.
 
You can't go wrong . . .

. . . with any Canon P&S. You can check if they have Macro so you can take those fun close up shots of leos too. Lots' of them have that feature.

I have a FujiFilm Fine Pixi 2650 that's only 2 mp, but it takes nice macro and regular shots. Plus I think you can find them for well under 200 bucks now.

Plus, with the 256 card I put in there - I can take over 400 shots at the highest setting. That's a LOT of photos.

(Why I got that big of a card, don't ask me - LOL)
 
Fujifilm Finepix S7000 night-time performance?

Hi Mark,

Have you tried taking pics under red light? Does it focus well under dim lighting condition? We are currently using Leica Digilux 3.0MP, we love taking macro shots, but we also take a lot of night-time pics (they're more active at night); the Leica is sometimes hard to focus under red light.

No... I generally avoid colored lights for photos. Doesn't do much for accuracy.

Autofocus in low light conditions will not work well with any digital camera... But the S7000 does have a manual focus ring as well. With the manual focus, you can get dead on, if you need to.

Try the Cannon S1 IS. It's got a 10x zoom lense and an image stabilizer. Only 3.2 MP, but I think that's more than enough with the lense it has.

If you're more of a photophile and want a really good camera, then go for a higher end deal like the Digital Rebel.
