Bothrops barnetti. The Desert lancehead. Sancarranca. Macanch. A large, heavy-bodied lancehead from Peru. Seldom seen outside its natural habitat – a narrow band of arid desert scrub that lies between the Peruvian Andes and the Pacific Ocean. Rarer in captivity than the Mangshan viper. A snake with a reputation for ferocity, a snake much feared by Peruvians – and rightly so. Big, quick, and alert, Bothrops barnetti is a truly dangerous snake. Bothrops barnetti reaches an imposing five feet in length. B. barnetti’s bold pattern and gleaming yellow-gold eyes set it apart from all other lanceheads. I’m offering 2.2 (CBB 2007) unrelated specimens of the magnificent Bothrops barnetti – stout, vigorous, well-started young specimens feeding voraciously on frozen/thawed rodents – for $4000.00/pair. Select trades considered. I extend this offer only to top-tier keepers with the skills required to raise these rare snakes to maturity and to breed them.
