    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

This guy ripped me off good! I thought I was buying 3 Southern Hognose Females, with 2 of them gravid. Of course I paid extra for the "gravid" females. What I got was 2 females and a male. Neither female was gravid, and one of them was blind! Not to mention that just this week, within 30 days of receipt, the male died of a virus very similar to IBD in Boas. He did offer to refund the difference between the male and female price, but NEVER followed through. He has since cut of all communication, and refuses to respond to any emails. I paid through paypal, so I am wondering if there is any recourse through that route for false advertisement? This guy also goes by Mister Johns Farm.

Do you have emails that document the course of this transaction? If so, please post them. I'm not sure what your recourse may be with PayPal. I'm guessing since you accepted the animals, even though they weren't as advertised, that you jeopardized your remedies.

I have talked it over with my husband, and might be able to convince him to
buy all three. What would by your best price for all three be? Are these
the same ones you had listed on the forum?

Thanks

guess they taste better right now)

Hi,

I am not trying to be rude or ugly, but I do have some questions considering
the price I paid. Are you sure the 2 females you sent are gravid?? One
appears to have just dropped eggs, (slight palpitations produce no feelings
of lumps) and her lower body appears deflated. Just like my Tricolor female
after she has laid. The third "female" is indeed a male. How did you sex
them? I hope some else didn't tell you wrong. Also, what kinds of frogs
did you feed them, as they have shown zero interest in tree frogs, toad
scented mice, or toads (though the toad was a little big). Any help or
information would be appreciated.

I will not be able to call you until Friday, as I am leaving in a few hours
and will not return until around 11 Friday morning. I will be honest and
tell you that I would never have paid that amount of money if the animals
had been represented correctly. $200 to $250 for the male, and $250 to $300
for each female (depending on how they eat) would have been fair, but not
the price you charged. So far all three have shown zero interest in
eating. Out of the 9 snakes I received last week, yours are the only ones
refusing food. I am not trying to be ugly, but am wondering if there might
be some remedy to this situation. I would like to give these guys a chance,
but really feel that the price charged and how they were represented was
incorrect. Please let me know if you have any possible solutions in mind.

Thankyou
Jenea

how do you have them set up - i had them on peat moss/dirt mixture with a
water dish
i had 4 people check them for sexing and we'll have to figure something out
and the large one most likely won't eat until she lays
do you have narrow mouth toads or spadefoots do you need me to send you
some?

I have them on aspen with a water dish and a humid hide. They do stay in
the hide quite a bit. I have tried Southern Toads, Greenhouse Frogs,
Green Tree Frogs, Squirrel Tree Frogs, and Green Anoles with zero results.
Right now I am very concerned about their lack of desire to feed. Neither
female has gone into shed, nor has the male. They appear calm and not
agitated at all. I would like your thoughts on the fact that I received 2
females and 1 male, vs. the 3 females I thought I was getting. Positive it
is a male, since he has already locked up with one of the girls.

Thanks
Jenea

Jenea
1st - get them off of the aspen - they will die
we have our on 2 parts topsoil to 1 part peatmoss
and put frogs in then
they will not eat the frogs with the aspen
if they are in bigger containers you can use a heavy water dish if it is
smaller container soak every 2-3 days and don't have a water dish with them
they will not do good when they are too humid
the soil mixture is appox 1 inch deep so they can 'hunt" the frogs
the 1st two females were already slowing down in their eating
i honestly do not know what happened with the 3rd one - hognoses can be a
pain because the males will tighten up sometimes - i sexed them and also had
them individually sexed by 3 other reptile breeders
With the male - she was marked only $50 more than my males
you can either send him back and I will send you a female or I can send you
the $50

I would prefer the $50. You can paypal it to [email protected]. As to the aspen, I do not feed on aspen, but feed in containers. Of the 10 other hognoses I have, this set up has been perfectly adequate. I have talked to other Southern breeders, and they use the same set up, or newspaper, instead of aspen. The big female has still not shed, and I am doubtful that she is indeed gravid. When I palpitate her, I feel no eggs, nor any "lumps" for that matter. May I ask why you think she is about to lay at any time? Just curious at how you made the determination that she was gravid. Not trying to be difficult, but trying to figure out all of the specifics of these three.

Thanks

Wondered about that refund? Haven't seen it yet. Hope your computer is not broke again.

Jenea

Well, still no refund. Also, neither female was gravid. Both have shed, and no eggs. Also the smaller female is blind!! Did you know that? By my calculations, and your own pricing, I should have only paid $300 for each female and $250 for the male. Throw in $50 for shipping and that equals $900. Not the $1100 I paid. And, that was IF the snakes where in good health. I have tried to be as nice as possible, but now I am wondering just what kind of business you are running? If I have no response, I do plan on reporting you on the BOI, as well as attending the Florida shows. I really do not want to have to do any of this, but you are leaving me no choice. Please respond, so that this can be settled in a reasonable matter.

Jenea

Guess what, just got back from the vet, and the little male you sent me just died from a virus!! You know the star gazing one. He apparently had it for a while, and since he has been secluded here, that means he was shipped with it!! I guess you are choosing not to respond to me now. I will still wait until Friday to post on the BOI to give you a chance.

Jenea

And now I am posting here. I have also been in contact with a gentleman that raises Southerns and actually lives in the same town as this guy. His words were that the guys place is a dump. How could I send these poor animals back to someone who obviously knows nothing about them? They deserve better. Right now I am feeding them via a 1 cc of baby food with a syringe everyday just to keep them going, hoping a feeding response will kick in at some point. I did finally have one show interest and eat, but he is the one that died. :bawling:

Wow, what a lousy deal.

Considering that you received 2 females that weren't gravid and 1 male that was supposed to be a female, I believe you can institute a complaint with PayPal...as long as too much time hasn't elapsed. I notice that the time frame seems to indicate that the communication dropped off right about 30 days after you sent payment :hot:

Is the person in the same town with the seller offering any suggestions on how to deal with this? Maybe he can mediate for you?

Well, I opened a dispute with Paypal. Good for me and bad for him, but today was the last day I could do it. They give you 45 days vs the 30 you would expect. I am only asking for the difference between what I thought I was getting, and what I got. I am not even bring the diseased or blind animals into it. And, figured I will just take a loss on the one that died. :bawling: Now I just hope that being shipped in the same container did not infect the two females. The little blind girl, Maya, is the sweetest little snake, and I want to give her every chance possible. This is not believed to be a birth defect, but the result of some type of head tramua. I guess when I get taken, I get taken good........

Jenea,
I would suggest that you continue to pursue this directly through Paypal. Historically speaking, Mr John appears to have some difficulty following through with refunds.

Here is an interesting read: JOHN CONSTANTINU-THE WORST of the worst

Good luck with your situation.
At the very least, I'm sure that the remaining two hognose are grateful to be in your care.

How ironic that he is now going by different names!! What a total scammer!!! I will follow through with paypal for sure!! I did look for him here, but did not know he went by Mister Johns Farm then....... :hot:

John was at the recent F.I.R.E. show in Orlando and had several tables. I don't have any recent contact information on him but, you may be able to get some info from the show staff?

I have contact info, he just does not want to respond to anything. I am hoping notification from paypal will get his attention. If he does not respond to the dispute, I will take it to the next level and make it a claim. At that point paypal will get directly involved, and mediate. I hate that it came to this, but I just want to be treated fairly.

O.K. Must make apologies. Just got off the phone with John, and he is very apologetic about what has happened. It was a pleasant conversation, and he explained the breakdown in communication. He has told me that he will refund the difference before Aug 3rd, so I will let you know how it goes. Also, Mr Johns Farms and Wild and Wacky Reptiles are not one and the same, but different business run by different family members in different locations. Sorry for that confusion and some of my harsh wording earlier. He has has given me some ideas on getting these girls to feed and has offered to send me some of the frogs/toads they were feeding on while he had them. I will update on the follow thru and let everyone know how it goes. Hopefully everything will get set right, and this will have a peaceful ending.

Yes, I got screwed yet again by this guy. Did not pay as he said he would. :hot: I take back everything nice said in the previous post! He and his son he said. Well, if that is the case, then they are both frauds, and both do BAD business. He sells diseased, missexed, and maimed (blind)animals!! So my next move is to call all these show coordinators and tell them about him, as well as showing up at these events and parking myself next to his table to "talk" to all his customers!! Think he will pay attention to me then??

If you take that approach you'll make him smell like a rose. Don't do anything inside the show. Document everything on flyer's and distribute copies to people as they go in. Trust me, he'll step outside and try to make things right with you.

A most excellent idea. It will work too, unless the guy is a total coward too.

Jenea

Document everything on flyer's and distribute copies to people as they go in. Trust me, he'll step outside and try to make things right with you.

Whether you attempt the above advice is up to you, but my belief is that any show organizor would have you removed from the show if you attempt the above actions, or at least would direct you to cease any form of overt complaint or protest within the show, lest you be removed. I do think it highly likely that John will be more receptive to your just showing up there and attempting to speak about a resolution. It also is usually a good time to catch vendors with money with which to settle a debt.

Jenea, the only noise you should want to hear out of John is the sound of crisp bills peeling out his pocket. He knows he owes it to you so no chit chat is necessary. The time for trading pleasentries are over.

Take some action, get some satisfaction, hand out the flyer's and you'll have your compensation with an hour of starting. Neither he or the shows organizer is going to want this going on outside all day.

Its how people got it done in the 60's....from what I hear. :willy_nil

I admit that I was a bit dismayed to see anyone want to pay that much for a hognose. So I edjumucated myself to the scarcity of southern hognose, and am now the wiser. I am in their range, and my property is loaded with hognose. I'll be checking under the tails from now on ! Seems the scourge of the fire ant may be the culprit ...... and I detest the little buggers already !

That said, and purely for rhetorical reflection, but why are we buying from anyone named "Wild and Wacky Reptiles", and isn't that name better suited for a ride at a traveling amusement show ? Who even thinks of a name like that? A "child of the '60's? When you are out on the sidewalk, might as well carry a sign "Don't buy from Wild and Wacky Reptiles" since we're having a '60's nostalgia fest. :)

Well, I have sent of a very pleasant, but detailed email to the event coordinators of about 7 different shows (some show in multiple states though :hehe: ) educating them to the type of person this man is and the bad business he represents. Not to mention the diseased animals he might bring. Hopefully, I will get some responses. This has all around been a bad experience for me, but it is also an ethical issue. I would like some sort of refund, but really want to stop him from doing this to others and to the animals! Someone that has no problem ripping off another person is not going to be consciencous enough to take proper care of their animals. I do appreciate all of the support and advice. I still might pass out fliers at the shows, but would prefer him not to be allowed at the shows to begin with. I will let you know what kind of responses I receive from the emails sent.
