    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Any one ever heard of this..

I have had my bearded dragons for three years, I have never had this problem up untill about a month ago, When ever I hold my male, wherever he touch me I break out in a rash that itches like crazy, and then it spreads, I have to take benadryll to stop the itching. Nothing has changed in his enclosure or his diet. When it first started I did not think it was him, I ruled everything else out, as soon as he touches any of my skin I get hives and itching so intense I go nuts.
I swear I am not nuts. LOL any help would be appreciated. When I hold my female nothing happens.

You're not nuts...at least not bases on this story. ;)

It certainly sounds like an allergic reaction. While they are uncommon in response to antigens on reptile skin, they do occur. Given that you are getting hives, it is likely a significant allergy. I would suggest not handling him without disposable gloves, removing the second glove from the inside out so your skin does not come in contact with the exterior of either glove. Alternatively, and this is a distant second choice, is to pre-treat yourself with Benadryl before handling him. You may need to use gloves to clean his enclosure also.
 
This sucks. He loves sitting on my shoulders I started putting a towel on my shoulder but it slides off. I will stick with the benadyrll I hate taking the stuff makes me sleepy. Strange that it just started.thanks for the advice.
 
Jim, any guesses on why it would be only the male? Assuming it is of course. Since it has started only recently on a pair that she has had for 3 years then it could be that it has matured I guess. Does it take that long for them to mature?
If they are not housed together then possibly it is something that is being done differently in the cage set-up. New plants, substrate etc.
 
I just re-read the original post that nothing had changed in the set-up. Maybe it should be scrubbed and steralized. Not saying it is dirty or anything, just trying to help.
 
I certainly don't think you're crazy...because then, it would be both of us!

I've got one male that when I hold him, I have a similar reaction. Wherever he touches turns bright red and itches like crazy, but I haven't broken out in hives...yet.

Jim, is it possible that bathing him prior to handling him would help? The reason I ask is that if I take my guy out and bathe him before I really handle him a lot, the itching reaction I get isn't quite as bad.
 
I notice that after bath it is less also. I break my tanks down weekly to clean real good, Both have the same set up, I use tile for for the bottom, also neither one go to the bathroom in their tanks, they always go in the bath.. Yes I clean the sink up lol. It is crazy I have snakes and turtles and torts and nothing just him..
 
We do the same thing...tile on the bottom, cleanup immediately after poo, running all the tiles through the dishwasher once a week, while the cages get a major bleach job. And it's the same, as well, here, I've got several other dragons, and it's only the one guy that gets me.

Melinda, one other thing I've learned with him is always to wear long pants and a long sleeved shirt when I handle him. It kind of sucks because we're in Arizona, but it does help for whatever reason. Then only my neck does the red, itchy thing because he loves to snuggle.

Different animals have different allergens in their skins, even within the same species, and in theory those can change at times depending on any number of variables. Allergies can develop to things at any time. Consider bee stings. People with severe reactions to bee venom rarely exhibit it until at least the second sting, and often later than that. I have certainly met more than one person who "all of a sudden" was allergic to cats. Granted, cats are highly allergenic animals and reptiles are not. That's why it's an uncommon occurrence. But it does happen.
 
Something I just thought of, Last month I started pairing him with the female, could it be because of them mating and he is releasing something different now that he has been with the female?
 
Now wouldn't that be funny, Melinda? This thing with my guy isn't something new...but he's been raring to go since the day I got him. Maybe their hormones are our problem?
 
It kinda makes sense, I have never had the problem before. Before putting them together he rarely saw, He is out everyday and never a problem. Mine also likes to snuggle and gets the side of my neck and face and the hives are not normal looking they are small and itchy. We maybe onto something here.
 
I have had that happen too! I get a red rash that travels up my forearms and itches after I handle my both my dragons and my dogs. It goes away after I wash my hands. It started this winter. I think the dry air mixed with frequent handwashing may have to do with it somewhat...it breaks down the natural protective oils of the skin and allows in more of the allergens.

Mine does not stop with hand washing. I have to take benydrll to get it to stop, I have tried waiting it out but it is to intense.
