    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

A couple quick questions

Hello all!

I have a couple quick questions...
First, I am planning on doing a "parasite sweep," so to speak, on my geckos, having them all wormed, but with 25 to worm, I can't really afford to take each of the to an exam at the vets. So my question is, is it realistic to look for a vet who will provide me with enough medication to worm the 25 while only examining one or two? I know my usual vet will accept a fecal without an exam, but if it comes back positive, then she must see the reptile before she will prescribe anything. I can't afford $50 a piece for 25 geckos to be seen..any thoughts on this? Are there vets who will do that?

And my other question..I used to feed all my geckos individually and by tweezer every day, but I have since switched to having a dish of superworms available at all times along with being "hand-fed," but none of them seem the least little bit interested in the bowled worms. Don't even look at them! Has anyone else had this problem? They are see-through glass dishes so I know they can see them, so I am not sure why they do not seem interested.

Thanks for your help :)

Get fecals only and explain to your vet that you have a large colony and need fecals only not full exams. It runs me $4 each for 20+, its more if I have fewer and less if I have more.

I wouldn't go about "a parasite sweep" if there is no reason to do so, that would just be dangerous.

If they can see through the glass dishes they may think they can get the worms from the outside of the dish since they can see them through the dish. I had some clear glass dishes and founf that in the middle of the ight the leos would peck and grab at the outside of the dish. Use a solid colored dish so they can see the worms in the dish and not from the outside.

I've never had my geckos tested for parasites before..if they don't have them, I obviously won't treat them. But I WOULD like to get them tested. I will have to call the vet again. It's been awhile since I've been there, but I am pretty sure they wouldn't allow me to JUST do fecals. I can check around though.

Also, I tried opaque dishes and they didn't work either, I actually switched to glass, thinking maybe then they would see them. Maybe they are just spoiled and want fed by hand :)

Sorry, I hit "post" before I was finished.. It's been a long day. Anyway, so you think I should switch back to opaque dishes rather than the clear ones? I just thought originally they couldn't see them, which is why I switched, but I can easily switch back.

Geckos are funny like that... Mine occasionaly hit the glass instead of the crickets seeing the reflection. Never hard, and never do they do it more than once, but it makes me giggle...
The whole "parasite sweep" is a good idea if they are parasite free... It can damage a healthy animal, and also it runs the risk of increasing it's tolerance to the meds, and in the event of an actual parasite outbreak, they could be harder to get parasite free...

Again, I think I failed to mention in the first post, but I did in my second post, that I'm not going to worm geckos that don't have worms :) I just want to have them all check and if they do, I want to be able to treat them all without having to have them all examined.

You can buy most wormers very cheaply without an Rx from any equine supply place online. For example you can can by a 25 g syringe of fenbendazole (Panacur, Safeguard) for less than $6. HOWEVER, you would have to figure out the dosage very carefully, e.g. the equine product has 100 mg of fenbendazole per gram of paste, so you would need to know the exact dosage of the active ingredient for your leo depending on their health, parasite load, etc., and then be able to accurately measure that amount of paste. I don't know why Panacur is so outrageously expensive for small animals and requires a prescription, when you can buy it so cheaply over the counter for horses. Big difference in vet fees too -- my horse vet only charges $25 a visit to come out to our barn, but the last time I took a cat to the vet it was $75 for an office visit to say she was fine!

I agree Jax. They sell Panacur and also Flagyl. However. Panacur does have a very safe margin, but i would contact a vet personally. The horse and leopard gecko size, do vary in size, i do imagine ;) hehe.
