    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

how often should i feed my ball? hes about 3 feet in length and its starting winter where i live. he WAS eating 2 small rats every 7 days like a champ but last feeding he didnt want to eat and the one before that he only ate one.

That's hard to say. How much does he weigh and what are the temperatures he's kept at? My balls aren't near breeding size yet (just over 1000 grams) and they're pounding small-medium sized rats once every two weeks or so. Don't worry if he won't eat, they are well known for going on hunger strikes, just make sure he doesn't lose a lot of weight. He may also be going into a shed soon.

I know they are known for hunger strikes. He did something like this last winter. temps are 88-92 warm 74-80 cold. I just can't seem to get the cold to stay above 76 but I'm not worried since every other temp in the tank is nice. he ate yesterday but didn't strike at it. I left it in with him around 1 when i had to go to work and he still had not eaten (sp?) around 6ish but I woke up this morning and it was gone. I think I will switch to feeding every two weeks. Maybe Sundays because that is my day off from everything.

one problem i just found was his eyecaps are still on from his last shed. I tried to get them off but they didn't want to come off. I had this happen once before but I cought it the same day he shed. This time I didn't see it and I'm worried what might happen. They were REALLY on there. They didn't want to come away from his skin (scales) and I could see, very clearly, where it needed to release from.

it sounds like he's dehyrdated. I would soak him in a bowl of warm (not hot) water every few days. To prevent this from happening in the future make sure there is adequate humidity as well as available water.

*if it feels warm to us, it is too hot.*
the water should feel just slightly cool - remember, the temperature you want is 10-15 degrees below (our) body temperature

i soak him about once or twice a week and humidity is 40-45%. SHOULD they come off with the next shed?

Soaking the snake doesn't do much for providing humidity, IMO...well, except for the brief period during which it is being soaked. The adhered eyecaps may, or may not, come off with the next shed...a lot of that will depend on conditions at the time. Personally, I would be inclined to try to remove them vs waiting. There are several techniques - what they all boil down to is softening the retained cap to allow easier removal (by you or the snake). I'm pressed for time right now, so I will let others fill in the details. Try offering a type of humid hide - basically just an enclosed area, with a hole large enough to allow the snake to enter/exit, that contains a moisture retentive substrate.)

i tried wetting a towel and trying to get them off that way, which worked when this happened the first time, when i first got my snake. then i tried rubbing them with my thumb. Havent tried putting him in a pillow case with a wet towel.

Now I'm having a problem feeding my snake. He just won't eat. I've tried offering multipule times, multipule days, different sizes and even ignoring my snake except for minimal contact (water changing, misting) and he still won't eat.

He also stays on the cool side all day. I tried to change the hides (they are different sizes) and that moved him to the warm side but off of the UTH and now hes back on the cool side.

It is that time of year, I have a couple 1 year old males going off feed. It is NORMAL for this time of year. Don't stress about it. Try to feed him ONCE a week if he eats great, if not relax. Try to work on your humidity issues and try to get your cool side temps up.

I agree

My female's being stubborn too, but just offer once a week and don't handle them aside from cleaning the cage and they will get over it eventually. If they start looking scary-thin, or wrinkly and dehydrated, you will want to see a vet incase they got sick or try to rehydrate them. Othewise, you just can ride the winter fasting out.

*I am nervous about my female too, so this is my rational side talking, emotionally, i want her to start pounding rats with gusto or shove them down her throat if she won't, but I know it will happen when she is ready*

:p i feel your anxiety...

Well at least I'm not the only one who wants to try force feeding, disregarding all emotion for the snake, and only satisfy my ego based on the size of my snake.

My snake's size isn't to my liking. It's insufficent and makes me feel like less of a man.

i tried wetting a towel and trying to get them off that way, which worked when this happened the first time, when i first got my snake. then i tried rubbing them with my thumb. Havent tried putting him in a pillow case with a wet towel.

That usually works. After a while in the pillow case have him pass through the moist towel by making a "ring" with your index and thumb fingers. Have him go through the towel "ring" applying pressure with both fingers so he has to rub against the towel. If this fails, dry the eyes and stick a piece of "scotch tape" on each one; gently remove the scotch tape and the retained "spectacle" will usually be removed sticked to the tape.

Good luck! :)

I'm not to sure because I've never had not enough humidity with her being in a rubbermaid. You could also try sticking a damp towel in there with her. For high humidity stick a dry towel in to absorb the moisture for low humidity stick a damp one in.

I wish I had a rubbermaid sometimes but I'm not sure how to set one up that will get enough light.

I don't want to put scotch tape on the eyes in case there isnt anything really on there. I haven't tried a pillow case with wet rags in a while. It's been too cold to leave my snake anywhere but its tank for any period of time.

Yup. My albino male is doing the same thing to me. He stopped eating about a month ago. He's almost to breeding size and has a female waiting for him. I could just about pull my hair out right now...lol

I talked to my Vet about this before. I called him after he had seen her to ask if he had seen anything on her eyes when he checked her because I wasn't sure when I noticed her eyes were kind of silver. I also asked if retained eye caps were a major concern. He told me that he didn't make note of seeing anything and that if she did have retained eye caps not to be overly concerned unless they stay on for a couple of sheds. He just told me to aim for a complete shed next time she shed, which is what I had planned. You can put a humid hide in her viv, a bigger water dish, these things would help, and the damp towel. I would say what my Vet said and just aim for a perfect shed next time unless of course this has been going on for a couple sheds already?

I'm not too worried about retained eyecaps since last shed was a full shed and including the eyecaps. If anything I wonder sometimes if my snake's eyes are dented or if the eyecaps I'm originally thinking of never came off.
Right now my main concern is with him not eating and I think I need to just wait it out. Starting to warm up (50 degrees) today but I'm not sure about the weather here. It changes so often people say "if you hate the weather wait 5 minutes"
