:shrug01:So i just picked up a trio Indonesian Tree boas. Its the small brown ones with the slight red deigns on them. Sooo....I have searched online for info. I got some info here and there...but Im looking for some people here with some real deal experience with these snakes. Sizes, mating, feeding and so on and so on......Anything you can chime into. Ill put up some pics soon. Its the small breed with the funky shovel noses. Im new to this species. I got them in a 10 gal tank with a nice peice of wood for them to hang on.....im told that the tank is Perfect for them and ill never need to change it. Im feeding them lizards...which im told i can change them to pinkies sooner or later thru scenting and such. Any more info or details will be welcomed. Thanks guys:shrug01:

I need to get pics of them on here. Cant put them up with my phone. I will soon. They are the small ones. Kinda a shovel nose on them. they dont get large at all. Ill have pics up soon.

None of these species gets very large, some are ground boas, others like to be arboreal for at least part of the time, so you'll want good hides but also a climbing branch. Many (mine!) like to bathe so need a water bowl big enough to sit in. Many are nocturnal, so you'll find they are more active and feed better in the evenings.

Most prefer reptiles but will transfer to mice and rats with a little scenting help. Mine really like birds (young chickens) too.

There's a small group here on Fauna who keep Candoia. If you post the word "Candoia" in the title of your thread, I think you'd get more views and opinions.

Do post your photos when you can. I'm only in intermittent email contact right now, but always love to look at and talk Candoia.....

ok these are them

Helen...these are the ones i have. A trio. no long then maybe a foot..and supposedly full grown.

I think these may be Candoia Caritina, which reach a maximum of 18 inches/ 2 feet depending on sex. I'm going to PM the other Candoia people on the forum and see if we can get more opinions.

yeah...cute little bugger. Im feeding them lizards for now...but really want to change over to pinks.

I agree they are Candoia carinata. I had three and I adored them but unfortunately I had malfunction with the heating on the rack they were in while I was away and it got too hot in the bins and they died. They were wild caught ones from Jerry Conway and I had got them to eat f/t mice and they were doing great. I was heart broken. I plan on getting more eventually but not anytime soon.

guys thank you......very much. Now i know what i am dealing with atleast. Are they called Indonesian Tree boas?

i am now finding more info on them....thank you guys. Any info on them...real time info? Breeding....and such.

They are definitely Candoia carinata. Depending on locale they can stay extremely small or grow about 2 ft as Helen mentioned. You'll find the males stay about half the size of females. They are easily sexed.... spurs = male while no spurs = female.

Here is a link to a paper I have coming out on Candoia in an issue of the IRCFs Reptiles & Amphibians. http://nyexotics.blogspot.com/2012/03/candoia-natural-history-husbandry.html

There is also an article by Dr. Josh Parker coming out on Candoia this month in HerpNation Magazine. His article is full of information as well.
