Putting this at the top so it will more likely be read rather than skipped over.

If you read below, you will see that I disabled the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025 in the hopes that I could get you all to donate AT LEAST $25 per day to make up the shortfall such an action would entail to financially support this site. I just got finished checking the stats through PayPal of the previous 6 months, and I plainly see that this did not happen. Yes, some people donated more that the bottom level Contributor Membership, but equally plain is that most people don't give a crap as long as they get a place to advertise their animals and merchandise for free. Well excuse me. I asked for help and apparently that fell on a lot of deaf and uncaring ears. Do you feel it unfair of me to want to make some money from this site, just as YOU are apparently wishing to do? I sure do hope that concept doesn't shock and offend you. But it is what it is. As such I will be reinstating that Google Adsense Ads as soon as I get around to it .

Burdensome are they? Well, I don't like them either, but I gave you the opportunity to show me they weren't needed to keep this site financially solvent. You blew it. Don't like the ads and want to go elsewhere? Sorry about that. Bye bye. Good luck to you. You left me no choice if this site is going to remain alive. It is either that or I just pull the plug on this site and you all will HAVE to go elsewhere. Yes, I know some people will be overjoyed by such a move, and personally I really don't care about that. I have done my part as best I can. I really don't need to be doing this AT ALL.

And please, don't come to me asking me to donate this site to you. Screw that. I didn't go through all the headaches running this site for decades to just GIVE it to someone. I would just as soon see it become just a footnote in the history books.

Do I sound angry? Sorry if I come across this way. In reality, I am just VERY disappointed in the whole herp industry in how they treated this site. Snubbed it, really. Oh well. I guess it was my fault for expecting (hoping?) for more out of people.

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big of a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Has anyone bought from these guys before? I'm interested in one of their reptiles specifically. Thanks!

I did business with them a number of times when I was in Texas, I'd feel safe buying from them online..Randy

I visited their store in person nearly two years ago and my husband and I were appalled at the overall state of the place. Dirty cages, animals in rough shape, reptiles in unsuitable environments, feeder rodents in the bathroom, etc. Overall, just dirty. Wouldn't give them a dime of my business if things are as they were upon our visit there. Whether they remain that way now, I cannot say and only hope they've improved.

Jennifer,

Two years ago is a long time. What the situation was then MAY not be now. That was in the past and that was your opinion.

So why the negative post?

Your quote:

"Whether they remain that way now, I cannot say and only hope they've improved."

So,,,, why say anything at all? Especially negative?

They might have cleaned up their act for all you know.

Exactly what I reiterated in my first post. If it had been a "Bad Guy" post, I would have stated, "This is accurate and up to date" rather than, "This is what I saw on a past venture in the mentioned timeline". It is up to the buyer whether or not the party in question wants to proceed or not based on all information given. There are many people on this board with questionable pasts that may not have committed any trespasses in recent times but that certainly does not mean they will receive the business of most people here at present or in the future. All opinions are relevant and I was truthful in my experience.

I will not even respond to the phrase, "That was your opinion," as to do so would be almost laughable.

Hi David,
I would do business with them i buy my feeders from them just bought a breeding pair of Venezuelan boas , a bearded dragon , and going to pickup a derails Saturday .
Suzette is a great person to deal with IMO.

I go to S & S from time to time, for selection I rate it a 10, for proper care of reptiles I rate it a 5, for service I rate it a 3, I have heard many people in Houston complain about buying snakes with mites, I have seen them myself, place hundreds of baby ball pythons in tanks so they had no space but to crawl but in a pile. I had seen some well kept exotics and birds. I purchased a Burmese from them and I also suspect it bought a case of mites into my home. It's a great place to buy sugargliders and supplies and parrot cages, great prices! I have found better pet shops for reptiles. I go directly to breeders and rescues know.

When I didn't know any better I felt comfortable buying snakes from them... Unfortunately, out of the last 4 snakes I aquired from this source, two have perished and another two are currently being treated. Many snakes in the store have mites and are not fed regularly. I have most recently noticed what seems to be multiple cases of respritory infections in many of the snakes. Most enclosures do not have proper heating elements. Low prices, but you get what you pay for.

The array of animals available through S&S is accomplished bu offering quite a bit of nice import animals....most of which have not been quarantined, etc....which is aside from their lack of space the reason mites, and other issues exist.
If you are an experienced keepr who has the ability to quarantine new aquisitions then I would not hesitate in purchasing reptiles from Suzzette; they also have a multitude of captive born animals in the offering (but these are housed with the imports so I wouold still highly recommend quarantine especially if you have an established collection). In dealings with them in the past they were always up front an honest about captive vs. import status. I have not personally done any business with them involving their birds or mammals, but know people who have...and their reactions have ranged from ecstatic to simply satisfied.

I agree.

As of today snake #3 from this source has passed, and the vet says all signs point to viral activity. I am getting tests done to look for inclusion body particles...

In S&S's defense, I will say that they were "middle men" in the transaction reguarding all ill snakes. It is my belief that something must have already been going on with them before they arrived at S&S. The bad thing about that is, that "something" could now be going on with any snakes that they and the others that arrived with them came in contact with during their stay there, which could explain the RI outbreak that was recently noted.

Diana, would you mind explaining the middleman part?? What kind of animals are you talking about?? Would be nice if you added some meat to what you've said..Just curious as to what your talking about.. Randy

Well it is a rather involved situation, but here goes.

This past summer when S&S received their large supply of CH/farmed baby Ball Pythons, I bought four from them. They were in fine health other than the normal CH Ball problems you may have... for example a couple were slow starters when it came to eating and had to be force fed and what not.

A month or two after having aquired these four, I took them back up to the store to have them popped. It turned out I had 3 males and 1 female. I would rather have had females than males, so Suzette gave me an even trade, my 3 males for 3 different CH/farmed females.

Here's where the "middle man" part comes in. These 3 females that she had given me were not snakes that she had in her store since the beginning of the season like the others I got from her. These 3 came in with another group that one of her importers had initially held back for himself. He had taken care of them for a couple of months before selling them to her. They looked like they were well-taken care of, most were fat and had some good size on them compared to the first 4 I bought in the beginning of the season, and they were also especially pretty normals.

So we traded, my 3 males for her 3 females that came in recently in the group that an importer brought in.

Out of those 3 females, all have died. One very soon after I brought it home, a suspected case of parasites, but the other two had some kind of bacterial infections or possibly viral. I have spent around $400.00 in vet bills on these $15.00 snakes, and I fear it could have spread into the rest of my collection and that just because those 3 have passed, doesn't mean the problem is over for the rest of my Ball pythons.

My one female that I had from the beginning of the season that I did not have to trade for is also now undergoing treatment and I am not sure of her fate. Out of all the snakes that have shown signs of respritory illness, I have not had any survivors yet, and those are the symptoms she is having now.

I hope that was all understandable.

Diana, I am so sorry......this is an all too common occurence within todays herpers.....People do not remember the days when everything we got was wild caught, we have become spoiled by the number of captive animals available and people do not know what the word quarantine means anymore......you have learned that lesson the hard way, and I hope that people learn it from your mistake than on their own.....
Keep your chin up Diana...there is recovery from such set backs.

Yeah, I have actually just recently discovered proper quarantine procedures, I just wish I had discovered them prior to getting these snakes.

Sorry to hear about that, that does really suck. Hard lesson to have learned and I hope the rest of your animals do well for you. Randy

I recently got a boa from them about 2 months ago and it came packaged perfect and they even threw in mites for free. There were more mites on this thing than I ever saw and when I called the store to tell them all I got was "oh," Whoever I spoke with hung up after that so I refuse to give them any money again.

Just wanted to add an update here... The pathology report on one of the dead snakes came back and no inclusion bodies were found. A newer paramixovirus related to the influenza virus is suspected to be present, which can at least give me some hope for the little male that is now showing signs as there is no treatment for IBD but another vet has had some success treating this paramixovirus with made for humans influenza injections.

I'd also like to add that other than this particular problem I am having with the CH babies I purchased from S&S this year, I have purchased a number of other snakes that have thrived while in my care. I do not believe that they intentionally sold me any bad animals or that they ever would take advantage of me in that way, and I still continue to do business with them every week for feeder rodents and I may one day feel comfortable with buying a reptile from them again.

Also, it was my fault for not quarantining properly and letting this thing spread as much as it has...
