    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

I have a person claiming to be one of the "leaders" of the 4h club, has any one heard of or done business with them?

I've heard of them, they're pretty active in our area as a youth group teaching agriculture and farm animal care. My suggestion to you would be to look up their web site for contact information, and verify that the person in contact with you is in fact affiliated with them before doing business. Is this person trying to buy or sell? And what? Is it for the organization? I've never heard of them dealing with herps, but that doesn't mean they don't. Any more information would be helpful.

http://www.fourhcouncil.edu/

That's their main web address. If you know the city or county that she claims to be with, you can do a search for that locality and get their individual web site. What is she purchasing these animals for? Is she trying to get a discount, saying they're for the organization? If so, I'd definately do some homework before selling her at a reduced price.

There are a LOT of smaller 4H groups that don't have websites or anything like that. There can be many "leaders" in every county, and some are group leaders, and some are county "project leaders". I was the dog project leader in my county for many years.

I'm curious why this was brought to the BOI.

4-H is like the girl/boy scouts.

It seems he wasn't familiar with the organization. And in a way, it's good he did look into this, especially if they were looking into discounted animals (which he hasn't answered that question yet). It's sad to say, but people could easily pose as someone from any group to get this kind of deal, and be no way affiliated with the organization they claim to be buying for. If the buyer is just paying regular price, maybe looking into it was a bit much. Maybe I'm just paranoid. Remember what's-his-face a few weeks back, collecting morphs for his rehab kids to breed?

4H is not much of a presence in bigger cities.

You find it quite active in rural and farming communities.

It's a generally well respected organization that has no real public problems with how it is seen or what it does.

IF the guy is legit, then it's a good way to help out the community.

You know what's funny about this coming up now? I was just discussing with my mother (whom was a 4-H leader & takes care of the county's Entomology club now) about starting a 4-H Reptile & Amphibian club because none exist & I feel it would benefit the younger generation. I'm currently in the process of negotiations with the head of our area. Keep your fingers crossed for me. :) You may see my work in your county 4-H halls!

My experiences with 4-H have been great. They taught me how to do stuff I never knew..As for Reptiles in 4-H I have never heard of them doing anything with Reptiles...

Its OK guys she has blocked me from sending her anymore E-mails so I guess she was a fake and apparently frequents this site because she sent me a nasty E-mail just before she blocked me. So thank you all for your help and if any one gets a response from a Monica Messeroll be careful.

And give us more details on the transaction? Was she just looking to buy straight out? Did she want a discount, or free things, and asking you to write off the loss on your taxes? If you still have them, could you post all emails exchanged between the two of you?

Give me some time to get them, she did not want a discount I don't think just to buy them straight out, so I don't understand why pose as some one you're not? I will post all mails between us soon. Thank you.

That is just weird. I have never heard of 4-H doing reptiles. I didn't even know they did things with dogs, either. It would be neat to see a 4-H reptile group start up, though.
I don't get why she would try to pose as a rep from them. Unless she has something to hide there wouldn't be much reason, which is what this is beginning to look like.

4H really does a huge variety of things.....the agricultural aspect is what most folks think of, but they also do art, photography, fashion, you name it. We had a very good sized group that attended my weekly dog obedience and jr showmanship classes. I have never, however, heard of them having any kind of a reptile program, but they COULD use them as an animal husbandry type of project. My daughter did a whole project documenting the entire life cycle of African Geese several years ago, from an adult pair, to eggs, to incubation, to babies, to adults....using reptiles would be a neat way to do a similar project.

I still don't understand why the lady even mentioned 4H if she wasn't looking for a discount or something, unless it was just to perhaps tell you that she was into the "education" aspect of the animals.....I dunno. Weird.

They currently don't. Which is why I'm speaking to the head of our county to get things rolling. Yearly work books will need made up, projects, etc. If it's successful here, it's possible it will spread across the country. I will post details when I have more information. :)

Our county has the usual Horse, Goat, Cattle clubs...But also an Entomology (bugs), Rabbit / Sm Animal & Back Packing clubs.

cool

sounds like it is high time for it, Triple. You will definatelt have to post and news about that, I'd love to help the local 4-H with something like that. :D
