    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone done business with Dan at DTS Herps, Inc? He is in Boca Raton, Florida and has ads in kingsnake.com.

If you have dealt with him, how did it go? Was the communication good? Was the animal packed properly for shipment and was the animal in good health?

Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Search the BOI.

You DO NOT want to do business with Dan.

First, I apologize for starting a new post but when I attempted to search using "DTS Herps" or "Dan DTS Herps" it didn't return me anything. I need to get better at searching.

Thanks for those links and I will check them out right away.

Michael

Well, I didn't need to look past the second search link. Should have known, his prices were too good to be true. I feel sorry for the animals that suffer in the hands of guys like him.

Thanks guys.

Glad to help.

In the future if there is a search you are trying to do with under 4 letters you need to use an asterisk to make it long enough for the search to work. Like this : *Dan

And the funny thing here is... if he was still able to post here. He would say that Fauna doesnt impact his business. That he is selling more than ever.

Guess what Dan... you just lost another one due to your antics here on Fauna.

Southern Wolf...well put. Not only his antics here, but also in his general dealings with customers.

And, Michael, the op, is a GREAT guy to deal with! Dan's loss.

I was going to purchase snakes from him a few weeks ago until I looked on here. When I brought the BOI bad guy threads up im email conversations he promptly went off on me and blocked my email. Dont let him tell you the BOI doesnt lose him business because I had money in hand to buy some emeralds from him.

Yeah, the mere mention of Fauna gets his hackles up. :mah:

I wish I would have done my homework before purchasing from Dan, really. I bought 6 chelonia from him, and received a Russian tort whose eyes were oozing yellow and completely swollen shut. He claimed that it must have gotten scratched by another tortoise during shipping (which I pointed out was still his fault, because if he had bagged them INDIVIDUALLY instead of cramming them all in one bag it could not have happened.) When I asked for a $30 refund on the sick tortoise, he called me all kinds of names, said there was "something wrong with me" and that I needed to get my "thinking cap on" and that if I didn't see that he had sent me "healthy, great eyed tortoises" I was "foolish." He said I was harrassing HIM but sent not one, but FOUR nasty emails after I demanded that he leave me alone and not contact me further.

$30 bucks worth of medicine later the tort is fine, but I have dealt with enough eye infections that I know yellow ooze means INFECTION, and if he can't see that, there is something wrong with the fool :D If he just would have refunded the $30 that I asked for (less than half what I paid for the tort, and what it cost me for medication) then I wouldn't be here posting now.

Instead, he would give me "consideration" on my next purchase. Like I would ever buy anything from him ever again. I am not the one that has something wrong with them.

Looking through his previous problems, it is painfully obvious that many of his problems arise when he flies off the handle at people instead of doing the simple fix.

:no_evil01

That was my point. He kept saying, "What made you think that there would be a refund?"

To answer simply, I flat out asked for one, and any decent seller in my book would have just refunded the $30. It was a $400 order. But I "pointed the finger" at him and he "didn't appreciate it" (who was I supposed to "point the finger" at? He was the seller, the tortoise was in his possession before it was shoved in a snake bag with 3 other tortoises. Whether injury or infection (it was infection) it was HIS FAULT) he instead got nasty. And then reiterated that he would give me money off a second order! What kind of IDIOT would buy twice from that kind of seller? Not this one. Besides, if he could give me a discount on a second order, why, WHY could he not just refund a measly $30?

The whole thing was stupid. I have all the emails and pics of the tort, one day when I have spare time I'll make my own thread about it.

Has anyone ever asked to get him off of kingsnake that would save 100's of newbees alot of cash and heartbreak.
he took me even after knowing about him cause he has many different usernames and accounts at different sites I wasn't happy when I relized who I just sent money to.

Well, this piece of garbage is gonna rip off the wrong person one day..That person may have some loose screws and it may not be good for Dan...I just know that cause of this place,I will avoid any transactions with him at all costs...

Dan Scolaro is A++ in my book!

I have had several dealings with Dan over the past few years, and he has been nothing short of stellar with me. I just purchased an animal for a friend off of Kingsnake from Dan, and asked him if he could possibly find me a little female pygmy chameleon to come along with the boa, for my little male. He said he felt sure he could get one for me, though he didn't have any himself, and quoted me a very reasonable price.

When shipment info was sent, I e-mailed him asking if he'd found me a little cham, and he answered everything else in my e-mail BUT that question ... well, he sent me 2 little girls, only charged me for one, and one appears to be gravid! The animal for my friend is as lovely as pictured, and as I said - this was not my first transaction with Dan.

I am not trying to compare notes with anyone, nor am I being confrontational in saying that some people like nothing better than to talk down someone else. I feel that it is only fair to point out that I have had nothing at ALL bad happen between Dan Scolaro and myself, and he is a GOOD guy in my book.

To be fair, it sounds like you got some nice animals and a good deal.

But after reading through the substantial number of people who have had bad experiences which turned worse when they asked Dan to stand behind his stock, I would not do business with him.

It seems like doing business with Dan appears to be sort of like Russian Roulette, you just don't know when something will go wrong and you will have the kind of horrible experiences reported by first hand info from some of Dan's other buyers.

There are too many solid vendors where you don't have to worry about a dog and pony show if something goes wrong.

That sums up what I've gotten from reading about him. While I've found people on here and other sites that have had good dealings with him, it's the people who have a problem and he absolutely rips them apart that turns me off. Why take the chance of not only getting a sick or dead animal, but being told off and slammed on top of it?? And since he supposedly has multiple screen names and aliases, how do we know all of the people who say they've had great dealings are not actually him talking himself up? About 6 months ago, I almost bought a Spilotes from him. I also couldn't get the search on him to work, but I did post an inquiry and ask a few trusted friends. As soon as I read a few of the threads on him, I stopped talking to him and took my business elsewhere. Mistakes can happen and I am sure that anyone doing (supposedly) such high-volume business with mostly wild-caught stock will have an animal not make it here and there. But it is how a seller handles a problem and what they do in response that ultimately determines whether I will do business with them.
