    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

Found this advertised on another forum and was a little surprised at the claims of the product. I don't know about anyone else, but I think it's all a bunch of doo-doo. Yeah, I could believe bacteria...Bleach kills bacteria (though how would it prevent it...your hands are swimming with bacteria...), but viruses? Come on... :rolleyes:

I use hospital grade cleaners at work that kill pretty much everything, but they have to be WET to do it. And they sure as heck wouldn't last for three months; just until I messy up my work surface again. I do have a foam product that basically shields skin from chemicals and nasties, but that has to be reapplied every hour or so and doesn't kill squat.

If it does stay around for that long actively eliminating things, I don't know if I'd actually want it near my pets or my food, I'll stick with good old regular scrubbing.
 
Bioshield effectiveness

Actually Bioshield can last many years on any surface. i kinda wanna test the stuff - put some icky things in a container, let it sit, rinse out solids, let it dry, swab the container and put it on a petri dish and see how well it works.
 
Well, I brought a couple of cans. I was initally going to use it on all the tubs, but after speaking with Harald and his reminding me of the "glass bubble effect," I put it on half the tubs including the hatchling tubs (but I am going to get more hatchling racks so all of them won't be done).

I'll be able to see if there is any recognizable difference in the mold growth at least. I do not think I am a good test subject for other germs and viruses, because I haven't yet had even a case of R.I.

However, I will be able to know if odors are reduced and mold is cut down.

I have almost decided to use it on all the Rat tubs (need to re-read the warnings)...this chemical should be more effective there since I don't mind if they do live in a "glass bubble" since they won't be leaving their environment (at least not alive), and keeping them perfectly healthy is the prime directive.;)
 
My comment was simply that I don't necessarily see the need to go for totally sterile environments....and, that if animals are raised in largely microbe-free conditions, what would happen if they are eventually sold and had to deal with those organisms again? Would their resistance to even the common stuff be reduced? Would their immune response be as capable of protecting them?
Unfortunately, I didn't make it to the last White Plains show to talk to Bob - I was looking forward to it. I think the product has great potential for benefit in many situations: my personal interest in it is largely limited to my quarantine area & for water bowls.
 
Deb, one of the things I would use it for sure (if I was a breeder) will be to spray it all over my table (at a show) and containers. Not too long ago I was talking to one of my local breeder at a show, when a kid show up next to us holding a medium size boa that was drooling all over the table (freaking scary). You never know what other people's snake might have or what could be floating in the air.

the more i hear about stuff like this at shows, the more i question the concept of the shows altogether.

If I ever decide to do a show, I most certainly would spray it on everything before I took them, and I would spray it on the furniture that I used, but it would be no protection for anything airborne.

Yeah, most of the breeders there are well known and practice good husbandry. It is the random people that bring in their reptiles with them either to trade them or sell them. But you also have the "one time breeders" that come to a show once, sell their animals real cheap and never show up again.

*I know, it's a little off topic but I thought Bioshield will help kill some of the stuff thats out there

I still not sure how good of a protection Bioshield could be (I haven't order mine yet) but I just thought it will help

It may, couldn't hurt. If it did hurt, they would be looking at a multimillion dollar lawsuit.

I definitely am going to use it on the rat tubs.
 
I know this post is quite old but wondered if anyone has been using this product or seen any improvements with it?
