    =====================

    I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

    So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

    But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

    Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

    I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
    Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

    And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.
  • Responding to email notices you receive.
    **************************************************
    In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Yard-herping in northeast AZ

    I moved out to Az about a month ago. I guess I'll use this thread to periodically chronicle whatever reptiles I find wandering across the property. Aside from the countless little fence lizards and skinks that seem to be everywhere, I've only come across a couple of things worth mentioning...

    Odd new error message when opening the site.

    I tried to get on the site a little while ago, and was greeted with an error message stating my IP address had been banned. It lasted a good 15 minutes or so before finally letting me in. Anyone else seen this?

    SFD (Snake Fungal Disease) General Discussion.

    This thread is for the specific discussion of SFD, carried over from an off-topic discussion on the BOI. Again, this is meant to discuss all things related to Snake Fungal Disease - diagnosis, treatment, cause, possible preventative measures, ramifications for the herp community, etc -...

    Suggestion: Delete all ads from banned members.

    Some recent classifieds ads have shown that some members aren't very adept at interpreting even the most blatantly obvious context clues. Apparently, having a Mod point out that a seller is banned and has used stolen pictures just isn't enough to dissuade some people from pursuing a...

    "Waiting for www.faunaads.com..."

    I've been having this intermittent issue for a few months, and Fauna is the only site I frequent that seems to be giving me this problem. Sometimes, when trying to load or refresh a page, I'll get the green background and the Fauna logo in the upper-left corner of the page; but that's all that...

    Info Brocthecroc - Justin Wood (aka Jason Williams?) Sellers Beware.

    I woke up today to find a nifty little nasty-gram in my profile Visitor Messages. Once I refreshed my memory on exactly who the guy is, I'd intended to bump whatever Bad Guy thread that he surely had by now. To my chagrin, he's somehow managed to avoid having his very own thread. Well, I...

    Reminder: Fauna DOES have a chat room..

    We don't see a whole lot of new faces in chat, so I thought I'd make it known that there actually is a chat room on this site. Wanna talk to fellow reptile enthusiasts in real-time? Come on in and say "hello". You'll want to make sure you have Java installed, otherwise you won't be able to...

    Change BOI default search parameter?

    Apparently, when one does a BOI search, it's default setting is to search the entire post for whatever name you enter in the search field. If someone has been very active on the BOI, it's entirely possible that threads bearing their own name in the title may get buried and not show up in the...

    Culling normal offspring because they're "ugly". Ethical?

    This is a debate that's been raging in the chat room for the past couple of days. A couple of individuals have advocated culling their normal offspring because they're not attractive, and, as such, wouldn't possibly be properly cared for, if they were to be sold as pets. Their justification...

    Has anyone shipped to Alaska?

    Unless yet another deal falls through, I'll likely be shipping a reasonably large (7'+) snake to Alaska. I'll be buying a large snake shipping kit from SYR and will also be using their shipping service as well. I picture the shipping itself to be a logistical nightmare considering the length...

    Would you consider this healthy and well started..?

    I picked up a baby sav monitor last night. I could tell right off the bat that it was skinny and lethargic, but it was also somewhat chilly so I decided to take it home and see if it would rally after being heated up. Today it's still just as lethargic as last night. It seems too weak to even...

    Need sand boa ID help. Kenyan or Saharan?

    I picked these guys up last week from an ad labled simply "Sand Boas". I'm guessing by the very prominent spurs that they're both males, but I'm not sure of the species. The tip of the larger one's tail seems to have the "claw"-like piece of flesh that would mark it as a Saharan Sand Boa...

    Yet another shipping question..

    I currently have a snake listed for sale on another website. I clearly state in the ad I don't want to ship as I haven't jumped thru the proper hoops to become Fed Ex certified. I don't produce anything of my own yet and I can count the animal deals I've done online with 1 hand. So it's...

    I just ordered a Canon a620 which should be here in a few days. I read some online reviews and they all seemed to make it sound pretty nice. Need help with cannibalistic green conda!

    I bought a baby male green anaconda at the 4-22 Hamburg show. For the past month he's steadfastly refused every type of rodent I've offered him. Last night on a whim I decided to put him with a bci of the same size as him hoping that maybe competition might trigger some sort of feeding...
