    =====================

I am still waiting on my developer to finish up on the Classifieds Control Panel so I can use it to encourage members into becoming paying members. Google Adsense has become a real burden on the viewing of this site, but honestly it is the ONLY source of income now that keeps it afloat. I tried offering disabling the ads being viewed by paying members, but apparently that is not enough incentive. Quite frankly, Google Adsense has dropped down to where it barely brings in enough daily to match even a single paid member per day. But it still gets the bills paid. But at what cost?

So even without the classifieds control panel being complete, I believe I am going to have to disable those Google ads completely and likely disable some options here that have been free since going to the new platform. Like classified ad bumping, member name changes, and anything else I can use to encourage this site to be supported by the members instead of the Google Adsense ads.

But there is risk involved. I will not pay out of pocket for very long during this last ditch experimental effort. If I find that the membership does not want to support this site with memberships, then I cannot support your being able to post your classified ads here for free. No, I am not intending to start charging for your posting ads here. I will just shut the site down and that will be it. I will be done with FaunaClassifieds. I certainly don't need this, and can live the rest of my life just fine without it. If I see that no one else really wants it to survive neither, then so be it. It goes away and you all can just go elsewhere to advertise your animals and merchandise.

Not sure when this will take place, and I don't intend to give any further warning concerning the disabling of the Google Adsense. Just as there probably won't be any warning if I decide to close down this site. You will just come here and there will be some sort of message that the site is gone, and you have a nice day.

I have been trying to make a go of this site for a very long time. And quite frankly, I am just tired of trying. I had hoped that enough people would be willing to help me help you all have a free outlet to offer your stuff for sale. But every year I see less and less people coming to this site, much less supporting it financially. That is fine. I tried. I retired the SerpenCo business about 14 years ago, so retiring out of this business completely is not that big if a step for me, nor will it be especially painful to do. When I was in Thailand, I did not check in here for three weeks. I didn't miss it even a little bit. So if you all want it to remain, it will be in your hands. I really don't care either way.

    =====================
Some people have indicated that finding the method to contribute is rather difficult. And I have to admit, that it is not all that obvious. So to help, here is a thread to help as a quide. How to become a contributing member of FaunaClassifieds.

And for the record, I will be shutting down the Google Adsense ads on January 1, 2025.

In short, DON'T! Email notices are to ONLY alert you of a reply to your private message or your ad on this site. Replying to the email just wastes your time as it goes NOWHERE, and probably pisses off the person you thought you replied to when they think you just ignored them. So instead of complaining to me about your messages not being replied to from this site via email, please READ that email notice that plainly states what you need to do in order to reply to who you are trying to converse with.

    Eye injury in newborn snake

I just had one of my rosies give birth to a surprise litter last night. All look to be somewhat premature. One seems to have had its eye "dislocated". This definitely looks to be a traumatic injury rather than a birth defect. I put it in a warm enclosure on moist paper towels and the eye is...

    Classifieds

Are both Classifieds systems staying? The classifeds here don't seem to get the traffic they do on other sites and I think it's partly because they are divided up into two separate systems, each with different ads. Checking both systems just doesn't seem worth it to me and I can never remember...

    Baby rosy ?'s

My female borrego, Princess, had four babies on Saturday, Sept 23 :) They're all about a foot long and seem very healthy. How long does it usually take before they go through their first shed? I'm assuming, that they need to shed before I start offering food? I'll try to get pics posted soon...

    What makes a rosy anery?

I was wondering what the criteria were for a rosy to be considered anery and whether this is a simple recessive trait or a phenotype achieved through selective breeding. All of the anerys I've seen display faint orange tones in the stripes which would seem to indicate to me that they are not...

    Broadening Uro Forum

I was curious if there was any interest in broadening the scope of the Uro forum to include other desert herbivores such as desert iguanas and chuckwallas. On KS the Chuckwalla forum has become the unofficial "desert lizards" forum and this seems to work well there. All three of these genera...

    Best Frozen Rodent Supplier?

I live in central California, and my snake collection has grown to the point where purchasing frozen rodents in bulk would be the most economical. I've heard some horror stories, that ended up in sick snakes etc. so I've been a bit hesitant. Who would you guys recommend? -Alice

    Eumeces compatibility ?

I have an adult male gilbert's skink and a juvie gilbert's skink and an adult western skink that just started showing his male colors. Sizewise, there is no danger of the male gilbert's eating the western (the western is the same size as the juvie gilbert's which was previously housed with the...

    Shedding in gravid rosy ?'s

I'm new to breeding snakes and I paired two of my rosy's up this year. I've suspended the introductions a couple of weeks ago when the pair lost interest in each other. The female has been thickening noticeably. She went opaque this week. I've read that snakes shed shortly before laying...

    Banded Geckos, mixing subspecies

My female Tuscon banded collected from the south eastern corner of Arizona, has been laying duds all season. I recently added a desert banded male from outside Anza Borrego, figuring I'd soon have some viable eggs even if the babies were mutts. To my surprise, the pair isn't the least bit...

    Desert Spiny Diet

I've got a new desert spiny. It came from the dairy at the Lompoc penitentiary. This is considerably out of range (the prison is in coastal central California). The dairy has a truck that delivers milk to Arizona, and the only explanation of her appearance (she's a full size adult) that I can...

    Lyre Snake Care

I have a new juvie lyre snake (~1.5 ft). Does anyone have experience keeping these caging (all I could find said to set them up like a rat snake, so I have him in a standard snake cage: 10 gallon, tight hide, water dish, UTH, and aspen shavings), feeding, etc. I'd like to get him onto rodents so...

    How long to pair rosys?

I'm trying to breed by rosys for the first time this year. The male (Fluffy) is 2 going on 3 and the female (Princess) is probably at least 4 (I got her as an adult). I started introducing them about two weeks ago. I realise that this is a bit late, but the female was slow to start eating after...

    western blackneck help

In the last few months, now that my garter is a little bigger, I'm realizing that my checkered is actually a western blackneck  . Converting it to pinkies is an uphill struggle. Scenting with my pacific treefrog does not illicit any interest. I thought I was over the hump when I got it to...

    Hovabator / thermostat problems

I can't seem to get my Hovabator's temperature under control. I've got the Hovabator turned all the way up and plugged into a Helix thermostat set at 80 and the temperature is continuously fluctuating between 78 - 84. I have second hovabator plugged into the Helix with a digital thermometer to...

    Chuckwalla update pics

I've had my little cb male chuck, Rigel, for just over a year now. When I got him, he was on the skinny side and only 14 grams. At his last weigh in, however, he tipped the scales at 140! He's also starting to show some nice color. My wc female, Gracie, is doing well too. She was 35 grams when I...

    Checkered took first pinki!

The neonate checkered I brought back from AZ finally took a pinkie. It's been eating fish like crazy, but pinkies have been a hard sell. Rubbing the pinkies on my pet pacific treefrog has worked great for me with my common garter and my northern CA western terrestrial. But, the checkered didn't...

Eyelid defects, and my little experiment

When this season started, I had to euthanise my first two hatchlings due to lack of eyelids. I also had a fair number hatch out with very minor eyelid defects. At this point, I did a couple of things. I remember breeders in the past blaming this kind of defect on vitamin A deficiency so I...

Small Wonders, Kathy and Bob Brazeau, Good Guys!

I just bought a striped female leopard gecko from Kathy and Bob Brazeau of Small Wonders. The transaction went smoothly, the gecko was well packaged (lots of labeling on the exterior of the box and insulation and padding on the interior), and the gecko looked even better than she had in the...

    More shots of the gang

I thought I'd take some updated shots of Midnight, unfortunately he started lightening up as soon as I pulled him out. The top pic is the start of the photo shoot the mid pic is at the end, and the third pic is there just because he was looking cute. So far the mid pic is about as light as he...
